The trip of Joel and Ellie continues in season 2 of “The Last of Us” on HBO and Max.
The second season of the adaptation of the video game takes place five years after the events of the final of season 1. The public will remember that we saw that Joel had the difficult decision to prevent the fireflies from making surgery on Ellie, preventing the group from using his immunity to make a vaccine in the hope of saving the humanity of the Cordyce Virus which transformed the world into a folk.
Season 2, which follows the events of the 2020 video game suite “The Last of Us: Part II”, will see the effects of Joel’s decision taking place like him and Ellie are trained in a conflict with each other and a world which is even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they have left. The season will be seven episodes.

September 2003
A woman is infected with the cerebral infection of Cordyceps in Jakarta and attacks four people. 14 people disappear after this incident. A day later, the mycologist Ratina Pertiwi is brought and suggests bombing the city to slow down the spread.
On September 26, Joel Miller celebrates his 36th birthday. A day later, he and his daughter Sarah, as well as his brother Tommy, flee Austin while the infection epidemic by Cordyceps reaches the critical mass. But Sarah dies in Joel’s arms when she was killed by a soldier.
2009
Anna Williams gives birth to Ellie after being bitten by an infected during childbirth. The attack causes immunity to the infection.
2018
Isaac Dixon betrays a group of Fedra soldiers after having locked them in a armored vehicle and thrown a grenade inside. He also connects to a woman named Hanrahan.
September 2023
Ellie lives in a military school in Fedra in Boston. His ex-chamber Riley, who left school to join the fireflies, returns and convinces Ellie to sneak during a night before having to leave. The couple ended up exploring Liberty Gardens Mall, where they are ultimately attacked by an infected. Although Riley ends up dying, Ellie realizes that she is sheltered from infection.
Three weeks later, Joel and his partner Tess were responsible by Marlene to take Ellie to the Fireflies, who died when they reach the point of extraction. Tess continues to sacrifice himself so that Ellie and Joel can escape an infected horde.
During their trip, Ellie and Joel meet the Sam and Henry brothers in Kansas City. After associating to escape a group of resistance, Sam is bitten by an infected and turns to Henry to kill his brother and himself.
Winter 2023
Joel and Ellie arrive at the colony of Tommy in Jackson, Wyoming. Although Joel originally plans to throw Ellie on Tommy, he changes his mind and brings him to a fire base at the East Colorado University. However, the base is ambushed by the survivors and Joel was injured during the attack.
Ellie meets two survivors David and James, who turn out to hunt for her and Joel. After being captured, she manages to kill David and James and escape and is found by a recovered Joel.
Spring 2024
Ellie and Joel arrive at St. Mary hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they reconnect with Marlene and the fireflies. Ellie is prepared for an operation that would kill her to develop a remedy, inciting Joel to kill Marlene and other fireflies to save her and escape.
Three days after their departure, Abby and his fellow comrades buried those who were killed by Joel and discuss him.
Winter 2028
Ellie and Joel permanently live in Jackson after being welcomed by Tommy and his wife Maria.
Ellie, who is angry with Joel, made new friends, Dina and Jesse. Meanwhile, Joel is in therapy with Gail and tries to communicate with Ellie, who barely speaks with him.
Their quarrel arrives at the head during a New Year’s dance, when Ellie and Dina kiss and face another Jackson resident, Seth. Joel enters a physical altercation with Seth, but is later shouted by Ellie to get involved.
That night, Abby and his crew of Salt Lake arrived just outside the colony of Jackson.
New Year 2029
Abby and his crew of fireflies assassinate Joel after she cheated on him and Dina, to hide with them during a winter storm while fleeing a horde of infects. Ellie tries to save him but is selected, kicked the ribs and forced to watch Joel is killed.
The infected horde also destroys parts of the colony in Jackson, some members of the community killed in the attack.
April 2029
The reconstruction efforts in Jackson continue to follow the battle with the infected horde and the crew of Abby killing Joel. Ellie is also recovered and is released from the hospital.
The Jackson council decides to keep a meeting to obtain comments from the community before voting on the opportunity to devote more resources to go after Abby and its crew. Although Ellie tried to convince the council to vote in favor, it loses by a margin of 8-3. But that does not prevent him and dina from sneaking in the middle of the night to go to Seattle and go after Abby themselves. Before going to Seattle, Ellie also visits the grave of Joel.
During the first day of their trip to Seattle, Dina learns that she is pregnant, which was later revealed to Ellie after their arrival in an abandoned theater and barely escapes a horde of infects in an abandoned metro system. Ellie is bitten by one of the infected to protect Dina and reveals to her that she is sheltered from the Cordycepts infection. Meanwhile, Isaac Dixon questions in a captured seaphite trying to find plans for the next attack of the group.
During the second day of Ellie and Dina’s trip, the pair retraces Nora, one of the ex-crazy people who killed Joel, in a neighboring hospital. While going after Nora, Ellie and Dina are ambushed by a group of stalkers and saved by Jesse, who reveals that he and Tommy followed them from Jackson but were separated.
While the trio turns to the theater, they meet and are attacked by the Séaphites. Ellie stumbles in the hospital where Nora and divides Dina and Jesse to take revenge. After continuing it at a lower level of the hospital filled with spores, Ellie Bat Nora to obtain information on the place where Abby is located.
