What experts of the Tiktok trend think

Doctors and physiotherapists say these Tiktok users can be on something.
“The time of the belly for adults allows people to strengthen the muscles on the posterior side or the back of the body,” explains Jason Snibbe, MD, an orthopedic surgeon in Los Angeles. “These are critical muscles for posture, vertebral stability and stabilization of the lower limbs.”
What is adultly stomach time?
The stomach time is to lie on your stomach, wedged on your elbows, while hiding your back slightly. You can also raise your arms, legs, upper body and floor trunk while keeping your abdomen on the ground, explains Leia Rispoli, MD, pain management specialist and physiatrician at Disc Sports and Spine Center in Newport Beach, California. (Physiatricians are doctors who deal with a wide range of conditions affecting your physical body, as opposed to specific internal organs such as your heart or kidneys.)
This engages and strengthens muscles in the back and back of your neck, which can alleviate pain or stiffness in these areas, says Dr Rispoli.
The position can also help improve the amplitude of the movements of your spine, explains Heather Jeffcoat, DPT, Physiotherapist and Owner of Fusion Wellness and Femina Physical Therapy in Los Angeles.
“Tummy Time works to straighten the spine and work on extension, reversing the curve before being on a phone or other devices throughout the day,” she said.
Can adult stomach time really help the technological neck?
Your neck also tends to be bent and you do not use the muscles at the back of your body, says Dr. Snibbe. “The time of the belly approaches this by improving the posture of the shoulders and the neck while strengthening strength in these critical muscles for stability.”
The bed on your stomach reproduces a position, the physiotherapists often suggest helping the spine in a more neutral position, strengthening strength in the back and neck, relieving pain and improving posture overall, says Rispoli. So, “it’s possible” that exercise could help Tech Neck, she says.
Being supported on your elbows also improves the mobility of the spine and gently stretches the abdominal muscles and hip flexors, Dr. Jeffcoat explains: “Two muscle groups that tend to tighten with prolonged seated postures.”
How to try adult belly time
There is an ideal position of time for adults and the experts we have spoken to have some advice:
- Start by lying on your stomach on a carpet or the floor.
- Support yourself on your forearms.
- Lift your legs and arms on the ground.
- Keep your neck online with your spine – Avoid extending your neck beyond where it aligns on the natural curve of your spine.
- Engage your abdominal muscles to protect your back.
- Keep your eyes direct forward.
- Avoid too much to archer your back.
Start by spending time in the stomach for short periods, such as maintaining position for 10 to 15 seconds, then relaxation, says Rispoli. If it’s painful, stops, she underlines. If it feels good, you can keep the position for longer periods, says Jeffcoat.
Who should (and shouldn’t) try the time of the adult belly?
The stomach time can be beneficial for almost anyone, says Snibbe.
However, if you usually have back or neck pain, or if the exercise causes discomfort, you should avoid it, he says, and talk to your doctor about identifying the underlying cause of this pain. It is also not recommended if you have a recent injury.
Never push pain because it could worsen the problem, notes Jeffcoat.
Other effective strategies for fighting the neck of technology
Although the stomach time can help the neck of technology, several other exercises can also offer relief by improving the amplitude of your neck movements and strengthening your neck and back, says Snibbe.
These exercises include:
- Lines with hand weights, machine machine or resistance strips
- Dowey with weights or a weight machine
- Plates
- Lying on the back along a foam roller with your arms by your side
- Use of a foam roller in the upper back
These movements help open your chest, improve posture and increase flexibility, says Snibbe. They “also operate the muscles against gravity”, which increases strength, adds Jeffcoat.
The essentials on the time of the adult belly
The time of the belly is an exercise that can help “compensate for the daily hours of poor posture that we all end up with”, explains Rispoli. But, if the problem persists, talk to your doctor or look for a physiotherapist.
