West Ham’s woes deepen as poor defending puts Leeds 2-0 up inside 15 minutes at Elland Road

Struggling West Ham made the worst possible start to their away game at Leeds as sluggish defending allowed the hosts to go 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

The Hammers, who have lost seven of their nine league matches, knew they desperately needed a positive start but their struggles were laid bare for all to see in just three minutes.

Ethan Ampadu advanced the ball for the hosts before a ball found its way into the box which was met by a free header from Noah Okafor, with Brenden Aaronson reacting quicker than West Ham’s static defenders to head home.

The visitors, who are just three games into Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign, continued to look lethargic as promoted Leeds continued to dictate play.

And just 10 minutes later, Nuno’s problems deepened when he conceded from yet another corner.

Joe Rodon was the man who managed to put a header into the back of the net despite being surrounded by a number of burgundy and blue shirts.

Defeat tonight will leave West Ham 19th with just four points from nine games this season.
