Mom saidOne of the determining singles of Metallica’s album in 1996 Loadwas not originally intended to go out by the group.
This was revealed by an interview from 1996 with singer / guitarist James Hetfield, who was discovered and uploaded to YouTube by the channel “TMF – The Music Factory”.
During the conversation, Hetfield, who wrote the song and plays exclusively the acoustic guitar throughout his execution time, compares himself Mom saidCreation with that of 1991 Megahit Nothing else matterswhich started as an intimate track that no one else had never been intended to hear.
“”[Mama Said] I wrote something for me: just on the road, bored, be in your hotel room, “said the singer.” It was not really for others to hear. It was real personal things.
Hetfield adds that, in one way or another, his group comrades heard him play the song and saw potential there. “They saw something there, something real from the deepest inside,” he continues. “It was quite heavy, which means in terms of. So we worked on it and transformed it into a Metallica song. It was not supposed to be the origin.”
One of the most vulnerable songs in Hetfield, Mom said concerns the complicated relationship of the musician with his mother, who was a Christian scientist who died of cancer in February 1980, when his son was 16 years old.
The track refers to discord between the two (“Leave my heart, let your son grow up”), but Hetfield also deplores her lack of gratitude for her mother while she was alive (“I took your love for granted, all the things you told me”).
Load was released on June 4, 1996 and Mom said received only one outing on November 25. The song has gratified well in Europe, reaching number one on the British rock & metal graph and 19 on the British singles painting.
Despite this success, Metallica has never played Mom said Live as a unit, with its only known performances being two solo acoustic interpretations of Hetfield in November 1996, one for the British television program Later with Jools Holland and the other Swedish program Sweden-Soviet.
Friday June 13), Metallica reissued Load Through a series of titanic boxes, offering nearly 300 tracks of that time, including many demos, changes and versions live previously unknown. The album was remastered by Reuben Cohen.
Earlier this year, the main guitarist Kirk Hammett expressed an opening to review LoadSound Blues plus on future Metallica albums.
