‘Wembley was silent’ – Tuchel wants more from England fans

England manager Thomas Tuchel wants more from his supporters after criticizing a “silent” Wembley crowd during an emphatic 3-0 friendly win over Wales.

Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Bukayo Saka put England 3-0 ahead inside 20 minutes at a packed national stadium, but Tuchel was disappointed by the crowd support.

“We did very, very well,” he told ITV. “We had an excellent first half, we led 3-0 very quickly but we could have led four or five at half-time.

“Then we couldn’t score the fourth or fifth. The stadium was silent. Quiet.

“We never got the energy back from the fans and I think the players did a lot to get more from the fans.

“So it was difficult to continue in the second half, but we did a great job, we deserved to win. Next step in the right direction.”

Asked if he expected more from Wembley, Tuchel replied: “Yes, what more can you give in 20 minutes? Three goals, the way we attacked Wales and didn’t let them get away.

“Even in their own half, win after win after win. If all you hear for half an hour is the Wales fans, yes, it’s a bit sad because I think the team deserved a lot of support.”

Tuchel is certain England will have fantastic support again in Latvia when they resume World Cup qualifying on Tuesday, just as he believes they will be backed all the way next summer.

“Today we were leading 3-0 after 20 minutes, we had ball after ball after ball, and I asked myself ‘why is the roof still on the stadium?’ That’s exactly it,” he said. “It’s nothing big.

“It could have also helped us in the second half at certain times to regain energy and regain rhythm. It wasn’t like that today, so no problem.

“We will still do everything to be contagious. There is no problem.

“Like I said, I really mean it, I’m sure we’re going to move everyone, it’s our fault. But today I was a little disappointed.”
