James Gunn quietly gave the great torsion of Peacemaker at the start of season 2

The following contains heavy spoilers For “Peacemaker” season 2, episode 6, “ignorance is Chris”.
Any doubt that James Gunn would soften his commentary and his policy after having become co -chief of DC Studios or that he would make this whole cinematographic universe more suited to families to call on the mass public – in particular after “Superman” – evaporated with the last episode of “Peacemaker” season 2. In episode 6 of season 2, Chris (John Cena) has made reality, while he learns that he learns that is supposed to say more reality to the decline in decreasing reality, while he learns that the dimnce Superce Appres Ever “is in fact Earth-X, alias the Nazi dimension. It is true, all the theories were good, and it is a universe in which the powers of the axis won the Second World War, which led to bad news for everyone.
It is a daring turn for what is essentially monitoring of very successful “Superman” success, with a show that had an orgy in its first, and now a Nazi world. And yet, it is absolutely in accordance with the whole story of Gunn with DC – which started with “The Suicide Squad”, a film on the history of American military operations in Latin America, and continued with the first season of “Peacemaker”, including a bad kkk. Although Gunn also had poignant comments in the films “Guardians of the Galaxy” – like the third film being all about animal abuse – it is really unleashed in its role as DC Studios chief. Say what you want with his writing or his cinema capacities, but at the moment, there is really no other filmmaker at the same level of show in a massive franchise like Gunn who uses their position to offer timely and mature themes like this.
As surprising as the torsion is, some fans have seen it rise to a mile. More specifically, there seem to have been subtle clues to the revelation of the land since the very beginning of the season. In episode 3, Harcourt (Jennier Holland) looks disconcerted when Peacemaker asks her “what is happening” between her and Rick Flagg Jr. (Joel Kinnaman), which is a clue that the English language has never been influenced by black culture as our world.
I bet you “saw” that it was coming
Indeed, the random house “historic dictionary of the American slang” declares that “what is happening?” Originally from greeting among black Americans in the 1950s. A world where the Nazis won the Second World War and spread their ideology on the planet would prevent such idioms from becoming common.
It was only one of the many clues that Gunn abandoned before the revelation. In this same scene, we see Chris and Harcourt obtaining hot dogs which are clearly not made with hot dogs, but more like Weisswurst. When Chris enters the alternative dimension for the first time, it becomes clear that there is no people of color in this universe. The posters of the rock group on the walls of Chris are groups formed exclusively by white artists; There was a newspaper clip of the top trio beating a “rainbow creature”, and the ashtray of the Smith house is literally a swastika. There was also the way in which the characters pronounced the city of “Blüdhaven” in a German accent rather than the name. Now, probably the whole, very first clue was just in the introductory sequence. The first peaceful dance movement makes each episode of the intro which looks with dissatisfaction with a swastika. Is it a range? Maybe, or maybe not.
This is only six episodes, but “Peacemaker” has already argued the argument because it was one of the best superhero television spin-offs of all time. It is not only a great autonomous story, but it widens the world of DC in a fascinating way (without making the revelations large enough for them to be in shoes later in the films, but also not enough small so that they can simply be ignored and forgotten). More importantly, it is really a continuation of “Superman”, with important cameos that continue the story of this film and tease future stories.
As with “Gen V” and “The Boys”, you don’t have to see “Peacemaker” to look at the rest of the DC universe (probably), which is good because the very R rating r alienates a large part of the public “Superman”, but watching the program enriches the global franchise a little.
