The Virginie Baseball team will open the ACC 2025 Baseball Championship on Wednesday against the Boston College in a second round match. The riders enter the tournament to drive a good time – winning 12 of its last 14 games – including the final series Three AC.
“Quite incredible,” said skipper Uva Brian O’Connor. “It was the mentality of our players and they succeeded, and we will not be refused.”
UVA enters the tournament as seeded n ° 6 and will now open its tournament calendar against the Boston College – a team that has lost against earlier this season. The riders have entered the season with great expectations, classified n ° 2 in the country – but the start of the season left a lot to be desired.
They quickly found themselves 12-11 – undergoing a sequence of five consecutive defeats in March.
“There have been a certain number of meetings throughout this period, which I had with the team or that there were only some led by players, and that talks about leadership and what it means for these guys,” said O’Connor. “Then it comes down to playing, going out and playing Virginia baseball in the hard nose.
“Then, four weeks ago, I had an honest meeting with the reality team where we were, at that time, that, fundamentally, our backs were against the wall and that we had to take advantage of each opportunity we had in front of us. And they did it.”
The riders have dominated in 20 consecutive games since April 6 in NC State – this 20 game sequence is the longest by UVA from the Brian O’Connor era. In the last series of the season, the HOOS won six of the nine ACC series played this season.
Sunday selection arrives at the end of the weekend and UVA should be on the field after their performance in the second half.
“I don’t think we have to go to the ACC tournament and do something to say that we are. We have won six of our ACC. Teams that did it historically, in my time in the league, entered the NCAA tournament at 100% of the time.
“We are five games above 0,500 in the league. There has never been an ACC team who did not go to the NCAA tournament with this curriculum vitae. It is one of the two best leagues in America, year after year, and we finished in sixth place, only a match and a half of first place. So, it’s an impressive CV.”
Virginia goes with senior launcher Jay Woolfolk on Wednesday.
“Jay Woolfolk is a winner,” said O’Connor. “Each time at the most important time that the young man intensifies. He did it last year, he did this this year during stretch. I believe that his share of his DNA.”
