Sony vice-president of Sony, Sadahiko Hayakawa, in a question / answer session with investors, PlayStation said that being a “company focused on equipment” to a larger platform that focuses on the community and the increase in engagement.
“In the game sector, we are getting more away from a business model focused on equipment to a platform company that widens the community and increases commitment,” said Hayakawa.

Sony in his latest report on the results announced that he had sent 2.5 million PlayStation 5 consoles for the quarter ending on June 30, 2025 for an 80.3 million units shipping figure.
PlayStation 5 is currently 2.1 million units behind PlayStation 4 in terms of units shipped. The PS4, in the same time, sent 82.4 million units.
Sony Lin Tao’s financial director during the same question and answer session admitted that the live service plans of PlayStation did not go well, but the progress of the States is underway.
“For the first quarter, the live service ratio was around 40%, for the whole year, it’s a little less, probably between 20 and 30%,” she said. “So, in terms of transformation, it does not go entirely smoothly, but from a longer term perspective, if you look at the changes over five years, you see that there has certainly been a change.
“Of course, we recognize that there are still many problems, so we have to learn the lessons of errors and make sure that we introduce the content of live services where there is less waste and it is more fluid.”
