Wayne Rooney reveals the difference in Liverpool-Man Utd rivalry in 3 brutal words

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has brilliantly described in three words what sets his former club’s rivalry with Liverpool apart from the rest.

Slot looking forward to Liverpool-Man Utd clash

English football’s biggest fixture dominates the weekend’s Premier League matches, with the Red Devils traveling to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

It promises to be the next big chapter in a huge rivalry between the two clubs, and speaking ahead of the match, Reds boss Arne Slot rated a highly anticipated event.

“I look forward to every Premier League game, but maybe United’s game even more so, because I know how special it is and I experienced last season what a special game it is. We know it’s probably the most watched game around the world. It’s special to be part of it, but in the end it’s also a game where we have to be at our best, because United, in my opinion, have had a better start to the season than what is showing maybe the classification.

“It’s a very interesting match and a match to look forward to, especially because it’s being played at Anfield. I think our fans have supported us a lot since I’ve been here and long before I’ve been here. I think they understand that the team that has lost three times in a row, they have to be ready, our team, but I think our fans can help us and will help us on Sunday as well.”

Rooney perfectly describes the Man Utd-Liverpool rivalry in three words

Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show [via Rousing The Kop]Rooney has explained the “deep, deep hatred” that exists between Manchester United and Liverpool, and why that makes it different from the Merseyside derby with Everton.

“I think the one of Liverpool and United is, it’s a deeper hatred, I think. I think Everton and Liverpool, because your family are Liverpool fans, and so it’s not, it’s not hatred, but it’s just, it’s a rivalry where I think United, Liverpool have a deeper, deeper hatred.”

Rooney is spot on in his assessment, with family members supporting both Liverpool and Everton, giving the rivalry a little less nastiness, even if the two Merseyside men still clearly don’t like each other.

With United it’s different, however, with both clubs respecting what they have achieved throughout history, but also hating each other most of the time and wanting to outdo each other every time they play, with bragging rights unrivaled in English football.

Sunday’s clash at Anfield will be no different, and for the Red Devils, they know victory would put a major damper on Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes.

On the other hand, a Reds win would put extra pressure on Ruben Amorim, especially if they lose heavily, so there is an awful lot to play for this weekend, as always.
