Christopher Meloni is the first addition to the next Hulu series by Dan Fogelman taking place in the world of professional football, Variety has learned exclusively.
The unit series was originally announced in October 2024. The exact plot and the details of the characters are mainly held under the Wraps, except that the show takes place in the world of NFL with a generational family component. Meloni will play a team’s head coach.
Meloni is no stranger to the world of football because he was a quarter of his high school team at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes in Virginia. In 2007, he and the team were enthroned at the school’s renown temple for their undefeated season in 1978. More recently, he appeared in the scripted series Scripted Kansas Chiefs “The Magic Number” and provided voices on the advertisements of the NFL on Peacock.
Meloni is best known for his role as Elliot Stabler in the “Law & Order” franchise. He created the character of “Law & Order: SVU” before taking him back in “Law & Order: organized crime”. This last show made its debut on NBC in 2021 before moving to Peacock for its fifth season, which was launched in April 2025. Meloni also played in shows like “Oz” in HBO, “Happy!” At Syfy, “Underground” for WGN America, and “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten years later” in Netflix. In the film, Meloni is known for “Wet Hot American Summer”, “Man of Steel” and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle”.

Fogelman is the writer and executive producer of the series. Jess Rosenthal also produces with David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold and Jason T. Reed for Skydance Sports. The 20th television will produce. Fogelman is currently in a global agreement at the 20th TV.
This is the second series that Fogelman has in Hulu. He is also the creator of the dramatic series “Paradise” with Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden, who is currently preparing his second season. He is also an executive producer of the popular Hulu series “only murder in the building”.
