Amazon Prime Day is on our doorstep, which means that crooks are in effect to take advantage of buyers looking for offers. If you are a privileged member, you can be a target for scams ranging from identity and phishing to false products of products and unsolicited packages (called brushing scams).

Identity in particular is a widespread scam tactic used to convince you that the person you interact with is a legitimate representative of a confidence company or organization. The objective, in the end, is to have personal or financial data that crooks can be given to use to access your accounts and steal money or your identity. Amazon is not immune: bad players have used all kinds of communications, including telephone, email, text and social media to contact customers concerning their Amazon accounts.

Amazon Prime Adhesing Scams

Amazon alerts customers with a recent increase in false emails related to premium subscriptions. The crooks send messages to the premium members declaring that their subscriptions are ready to renew, but at an unexpected – higher price. E-mails include a “Cancel Subscription” button or link, which leads to a phishing website that the usurpation of the Amazon connection page. If you engage with the site, you can end up handing over your Amazon identification information or your bankruptcy bank information. Amazon notes that these false emails can be personalized to make them more legitimate and convincing.

Another possible iteration of this scam is a message stating that there is a problem with your account which forces you to contact Amazon to resolve. (If you plan to buy first -rate offers, this “problem” may seem particularly relevant.) However, if you click on the link or call the phone number provided, you will probably reach the crooks, not Amazon customer support.

How to avoid first -day scams

If you receive a message to Amazon urgent sounding about your Prime subscription, you can probably ignore it. Do not click on any link or do not respond directly to messages – engage crooks makes it more likely that your information will be compromised in one way or another.

What do you think so far?

If you are not sure of the state of your main membership, you can consult the date of renewal and plan the information in the Amazon application or via the Amazon website (go to Accounts and lists> Account> Premium). Always type Amazon.com directly in your browser to avoid phishing websites that may appear in search results. You can also check any communication from Amazon under Accounts and lists> Account> Your messagesBecause all legitimate messages will be archived here.

If you think you have been targeted by crooks, you can report it to the Amazon assistance page. You can also activate two -factor authentication on your Amazon account and, if you have accidentally clicked on suspicious links, keep an eye on your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized activity.
