South Africa’s Simon Harmer continued his good times with the ball by dismissing Washington Sundar to put his fifer on day five of the second Test against India in Guwahati on Wednesday (November 26). Sundar started almost identically with the same bowler and slip fielder in the match, perishing for 16 off 44 balls in the second innings.
The dismissal came in the 61st over of India’s run chase. Harmer threw a long ball outside off, a faster ball at 90.1 km/h. Sundar went back to defend but ended up hanging his bat. The ball caused an outside edge and went sharply to the right of Aiden Markram, who has taken the most catches in a Test match (nine).

Simon Harmer troubled India throughout the Test series. The 36-year-old took eight wickets in the first Test as the Proteas won the match by 30 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. He also picked up eight wickets again (and counting) in the second Test as the tourists are set to complete a 2-0 whitewash.
On the other hand, Sundar bowled the most balls in the first Test while playing at no.3. Apart from 16 off 44 deliveries, the left-hander also lasted 92 balls for his 48 in the first innings of the second Test. The team management might consider promoting him up the batting order.
Simon Harmer helps South Africa completely dominate India in 2nd Test
As mentioned, Simon Harmer’s fife put the Proteas in the driving seat against India. The tourists are looking for their first Test series win in India since the 1999/2000 series.
At the time of writing, the hosts were 138/8, with Ravindra Jadeja (53) and Jasprit Bumrah (0) at the crease. Harmer was the leading wicket-taker with six scalps.
Notably, South Africa posted 489 in their first innings. In response, India were bundled out for 201. The visitors then declared their second innings for 260/5, setting a mammoth target of 459 runs for the Men in Blue.
The Indian team is on the verge of losing their second home Test in the last 13 months. They had already lost to New Zealand 0-3 in October 2024.
