The Seattle Storm will continue its four-game road trip on Sunday afternoon against the title champion New York Liberty in Brooklyn.
Seattle (11-7) has victories out of the best four teams in the WNBA ranking, including a 10-point home victory against New York on June 22.
“It’s not that difficult. When we play a high level and are locked up, we are a very good team,” said Storm Noelle Quinn coach. “When we are not locked up, we are not a good team. For us to really have the owner, we have to show that we are improved in every game. It is a difficult schedule and a difficult season, but at the end of the day, we have players in our locker rooms committed to each other.”
Seattle is led by veteran All-Stars Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike. Diggins scored the winner of the match on a driving lay-up with 3.4 seconds playing in the 80-79 Thursday victory against Atlanta’s dream.
“Skylar does Skylar things,” said Ogwumike, who has contributed 24 points. “She is relentless. She will continue. There is just a fire in her that is lit all the time. She is literally the head of our snake.”
New York (12-5) has dropped four of his last six games while his defense fell fifth in the WNBA in points authorized at 79.8 per game.
The Liberty welcomed the Starter Leonie Fiebich in an 89-79 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday. She had missed seven games playing for the team in Germany in Eurobasket.
Coach Sandy Brondello had qualified the game to win a must.
“I was proud of how we answered,” said Brondello. “We did stupid things. Once we turned to defense, our communication went to another level.”
Liberty still miss the star Jonquel Jones with an ankle injury.
Natasha Cloud took over the scoring in the absence of Jones. She had a summit in season 23 in the victory against the Sparks and has an average of 19.0 points in the last three games.
“Every day I go out and play is a blessing,” said Cloud. “To be able to continue playing at an elite level as an option, as a choice of draft in the second round (in 2015), it really counts for me to bring freedom to my chest.”
