VISIONQUEST Showrunner Reveals If We’ll See Ultron In His Robotic Form; teases ‘very different’ episodes

VisionQuest will conclude the trilogy begun with WandaVision and continued last year in Agatha throughout. There’s a huge amount of excitement around what this means for the MCU, especially with Avengers: Apocalypse on the horizon.

The series will likely address the status of the Scarlet Witch following her apparent disappearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As for The Vision, he will be reunited with his sons, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, and some familiar AIs from his and the MCU’s past (who, based on recent rumors, are hiding in Madripoor after having somehow taken on “human” form).

Fans have expressed some concerns that James Spader’s Ultron, for example, is depicted this way to save money on VFX costs. The design of the villain in the 2015s Avengers: Age of Ultron was a somewhat controversial topic at the time, and fans have been waiting for over a decade to see the android rise again.

Speaking to Phase Hero, VisionQuest Showrunner Terry Matalas has confirmed that we will see Ultron in his true form. “You can see the robot Ultron, but you see a lot of James Spader and a lot of Paul Bettany together.” he teased. “They’re really a central dynamic of the show.”

He added that the show acts as “a delivery system for Bettany and Spade”, and it is obvious that VisionQuest will finally address what happened after Vision and Ultron’s final confrontation in the woods at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

This was deliberately left ambiguous; although it seemed likely that Vision destroyed his “father”, it was long speculated that he might have let him go free (or that Ultron might have found a way to fake his death). The villain has clearly been busy, surrounding himself with some sort of family in Madripoor.

There’s still a lot we don’t know VisionQuestand according to Matalas, we can expect each episode to be completely unique.

“All” he responded after being asked if he had a favorite episode. “To be honest, they’re all very different. Each of them represents a different type of film, so to each of them I could say, ‘I can’t wait for this, I can’t wait for this.’ They’re all very different, but they all have favorite moments for me.”

The first trailer for VisionQuest debuted at New York Comic Con this past weekend, but unfortunately for us, it didn’t leak online. The series isn’t expected to premiere on Disney+ until next fall, so an official first look could still be a ways off.
