Suryakumar Yadav finally reveals the truth about Shreyas Iyer’s condition after horrific injury

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer was admitted to the intensive care unit of Sydney Hospital and was reported stable by Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. He also confirmed that he is in constant contact with Shreyas, who responds to his teammates’ text messages.

Shreyas Iyer was ruled out due to injury after landing awkwardly, injuring his ribcage as he ran back towards backward point to catch Alex Carey. The Indian team’s medical staff immediately rushed to help Shreyas take off.

It was reported that Shreyas did not suffer a broken bone, but he did have a laceration to his spleen due to which he was admitted to Sydney’s intensive care unit and kept for observation, later recovering from his internal bleeding.

Suryakumar Yadav provides latest update on Shreyas Iyer’s injury status

Shreyas Iyer is stable and out of danger, according to Indian T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking at the pre-match conference on Tuesday, the Indian T20I captain gave an update on Iyer’s injury.

Asked for updates regarding the player, the captain said he is stable and responding to testing messages sent to him. However, he revealed that Iyer is expected to remain under observation for a few more days.

“On the first day, when I heard that he was injured, I called him. I found out that he didn’t have his phone. So, I called the physio and he told me that he was stable. On the first day, you can’t be sure of anything,” Suryakumar Yadav said in the press conference.

Shreyas Iyer released from intensive care

Shreyas Iyer has been taken out of the intensive care unit as he has recovered from his injury and would likely be released very soon to leave for India. However, although he has been discharged from intensive care, he has not yet been discharged from Sydney Hospital.

I spoke to him the last two days and he answered the phone. If he responds, he is stable. He looks good; the doctors are with him. But he will be under surveillance for the next few days. But he responded, so that’s good,” Suryakumar Yadav said ahead of the opening T20I.

Gautam Gambhir backs Indian T20I skipper despite lack of form

Gautam Gambhir backed the Indian T20I skipper’s “free-spirited” off-field personality and said his adoption of this form of the game has given other youngsters in the team the freedom to play their game.

Coach Gautam Gambhir on Monday backed the T20 skipper. “Honestly, Surya’s batting form doesn’t concern me because we are committed to an ultra-aggressive model in our dressing room. When you adopt this philosophy, failures are inevitable,” he said in a chat on JioHotstar.
