Virat Kohli should not leave the tests, Brian Lara says “he goes on average more than 60”

Virat Kohli played 123 tests in his career so far, and has scored 9,230 points at an average of 46.85.

Ever since the news of Virat Kohli’s Test retirement has come out, all the top players in the world just don’t want it to happen. And joining the bandwagon is West Indies great, Brian Lara. In fact, the latter is hopeful that he would average 60 from now on.

Virat Kohli Ready to Leave Tests?

Lara wrote, “Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. He is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career.” Meanwhile, it is widely reported that a senior BCCI official spoke to Virat Kohli, regarding his decision to quit the format.

Having said that, the 36-year-old Indian was poor in the India vs Australia Test series, where except for his ton at Perth, he failed to score big runs. What was even more concerning is, he kept getting out the same way — brining his weakness outside the off stump, to the fore.

Brian Lara Doesn’t Want Him Gone

For the record, in the 10 matches last year, Virat scored only 417 runs at an average of 24. In this period, he only managed to score a ton and a fifty.

Another report claimed that the BCCI wanted him back as the skipper. “It is true that selectors did think about having Kohli as India skipper for the England series,” a BCCI source told PTI. “This would have given Gill some time to grow into the leadership role, but at 25-and-a-half years of age, he is yet to hit his peak. Due to Bumrah’s fitness issues, Gill looks like the obvious choice for Ajit Agarkar’s committee,” the source added.
