Crucial Australian series for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill
The upcoming Australia series is important for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their ODI futures. It has been reported that their selection in the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup could depend on their performance during the series.
This will also be Shubman Gill’s debut as ODI captain. He was named ODI captain after a successful series against England and West Indies in Tests. Gill hopes to replicate his leadership impact in the white-ball format, setting the tone for his captaincy style.
The series will allow Gill to evaluate his team, understand players’ roles and evaluate responses in various match situations. With stars like Kohli and Rohit in the lineup, Gill will also get valuable insights into managing and leading a star-studded team.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma set to break records
Virat Kohli is just a century away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most international centuries in a single format. If he scores in the upcoming ODI series against Australia, it will be his 52nd ODI century, surpassing Tendulkar’s 51 Test centuries.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is inching closer to a historic milestone of his own. The 38-year-old needs just 10 more runs to become the first Indian to score 1,000 runs against Australia on Australian soil.
Rohit has 990 runs in 19 innings at an average of 58.23, including four centuries and two fifties, a feat no other Indian batter has achieved in Australia. Virat needs 198 races to reach the same milestone.
