Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria on being WAGs back in the day

Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria take a walk down memory lane.

In the new Netflix documentary series called Victoria Beckhamthe 51-year-old fashion designer and 50-year-old actress recalled a time in their lives when they were both WAGs – or “wives and girlfriends” of professional athletes.

Victoria has been married to soccer star David Beckham since 1999, while Longoria was married to basketball player Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011. The two met because David and Parker were friends, and their bond grew when the Beckhams moved to Los Angeles.

In separate interviews, the longtime friends discussed being WAGs at the same time, with Victoria noting it was “a moment in time.”

“I didn’t know what a ‘WAG’ was,” Longoria recalls. “I remember seeing in a newspaper clipping that I was a WAG and I was like, ‘What the hell?'”

“It’s hard to be married to an athlete because the world idolizes them,” she said. “There’s an assumption that comes with being a wife or girlfriend, that you’re a gold digger, that you don’t have a job, that you just want to look pretty and spend money.”

She continued: “It was like, ‘Ugh, how can you have a job?’ Your job is to support your husband.

“It was a moment in time,” Victoria shared. “We were the WAGs and they were the HABs. Husbands and boyfriends.”

The designer also admitted that “there was an element of attention seeking” to her role as a WAG.

“It was at a time when I wasn’t feeling creatively fulfilled, so that’s how I stayed in the conversation,” she said. “I didn’t realize it at the time but I was trying to find myself.”

Longoria supported Victoria at the world premiere of her docuseries in London on Wednesday, October 8. The actress looked stunning in a white satin gown with a cowl neck and matching accessories.

In a 2023 interview with The timesLongoria opened up about his friendship with Victoria.

“We are peas in a pod,” the actress said.

“I wish people knew how funny, charming and intelligent Victoria is,” she added. “She’s the funniest person. I think she’s an introvert, but she’s an extrovert with me. We’re inseparable.”

Longoria noted that as she grew closer to Victoria, they would have “sleepovers” in London — Longoria’s favorite city.

“We have sleepovers all the time, mostly at their farm or in London. We usually chat all night,” she admitted.

“She’s extremely loyal,” Longoria continued. “There’s never a time when I can’t call her, or she’s not available, or she doesn’t fly to see me, or I fly to see her. Or I go through her closet. She gives me motherly advice and business advice.”

In July, Longoria joined Victoria and David on vacation in Saint-Tropez, France. The friends were spotted together on a yacht, along with the Beckhams’ son Cruz Beckham, 20, and his girlfriend, Jackie Apostel.
