Veteran Arizona Cardinals WR out with heartbreaking leg injury

Things quickly went south for the Arizona Cardinals, who lost to the Seattle Seahawks 38-7 in the second quarter of Week 10.
With names such as Garrett Williams and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson leaving action due to injury, Zay Jones has unfortunately joined them with an injury that seems all too familiar to those who have suffered a torn Achilles.

He was officially expelled.
It’s a terrible sight, as you can see the Achilles rupture in real time on the replay.
Jones initially tried to walk under his own power, but was quickly carried to the locker room. Simi Fehoko took his place.
After initially signing with Arizona ahead of the 2024 season, Jones was brought back to the desert to serve as a veteran in a young Cardinals WR room.
“There was more peace with that decision than I would have had with other places,” he said upon his return to Arizona.
“It’s wonderful to have the support of not only your coaches but your peers,” Jones said. “It carries a lot of weight.
“You both made this deal together. I make it sound like a marriage.
“But you have that commitment to a common goal. That’s what makes this team unique to me compared to other experiences. No front office in the NFL pays players they don’t need.”
His play helped beat out former slot player Greg Dortch for the starting roles behind Marvin Harrison Jr. and Michael Wilson.
“He does his job. He’s in the right spot. He can play three spots. He’s fast and he’s explosive,” Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said of Jones.
“(He’s) a really good contested wrestler, so I’m looking forward to seeing him make an impact on us.”
Jones has 12 receptions for 183 yards this season. He is considered a versatile weapon who can line up at any WR spot for the Cardinals, although Arizona is now looking to replace his slot with depth pieces.
As for the game against the Seahawks, the Cardinals were clearly pleased with their offensive performance entering Week 10.
“We’re doing the right things to move the ball, stay on the field and score points,” Gannon said this week.
“It’s good to see because we’ve put forward some numbers here that would tell you that you should have a chance to win the game when you score the points that we have accumulated. That said, this week is going to be a new challenge.
“In my opinion, the tape I’ve watched so far, it’s the best defense we’ve played. It’s going to be a big challenge, especially at their place.”
A daunting challenge indeed, which only got worse with injuries.
