Very cold nights on the way this week
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — The showers and storms we tracked over the weekend dissipated Monday, but thick clouds remained over the region.
Temperatures, thanks to overcast skies and a northerly breeze, did not warm until the mid-50s. A few locations spent much of the day in the 40s due to high afternoon temperatures.
Tuesday morning, the day will start at a temperature below or equal to zero. Some inland areas west of I-95 could reach the upper 20s. A strong breeze will help produce wind chill values in the mid 20s Tuesday morning.
The afternoon will have mostly sunny skies as high pressure moves across the region. Temperatures will only top out in the upper 40s and lower 50s.
Tuesday evening will be very cold again, with lows again between 20 and 30 degrees early Wednesday morning.
High temperatures Wednesday afternoon will be milder than we expected for Tuesday. However, highs will remain below normal in the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Be sure to take precautions to stay warm by dressing in layers and remember to bring pets indoors. It would also be a good idea to protect any sensitive vegetation that might still be growing.
Milder air will begin to filter toward the Southeast by Thursday and Friday with high temperatures expected to reach the mid 60s.
A cold front is expected to pass through the region on Sunday, and it will bring some passing showers.
Afternoon high temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s, ahead of the cold front on both days of the weekend.
