Vanity Fair Reexamines Olivia Nuzzi’s Role at the Company

Olivia Nuzzi’s new job at Vanity Fair came into question this week after her ex-fiancé accused her of having a second affair with a political leader she covered. Today, a spokesperson for Vanity Fair confirmed that the company was “reviewing all the facts” before deciding on the journalist’s future as editor-in-chief of the popular West Coast magazine.

Vanity Fair — which tapped Nuzzi as its West Coast editor in September — said they would review his past conduct before making a decision on his role, noting that they “were taken by surprise” by Ryan Lizza’s claims in a Substack article Monday. “We are looking at all the facts,” the spokesperson told TheWrap.

The magazine’s statement comes just days after Lizza questioned her ex’s journalistic ethics, highlighting another questionable relationship the controversial journalist may have had with a subject. Specifically, Lizza alleged that Nuzzi had an affair with Mark Sanford, former South Carolina governor and former Republican presidential candidate, whom she wrote about in a 2019 New York magazine article.

The allegation follows Nuzzi’s digital sexting scandal with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom she also profiled for New York. In a September 2024 statement, Nuzzi admitted to the relationship, saying it “should have been disclosed to avoid the emergence of a conflict.” She has since written about the affair (though without directly naming Kennedy) in her new memoir, “American Canto.”

The alleged relationship was denied by the US Secretary of Health and Human Services. He had previously pointed out that he had “only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which resulted in a successful article”.

The New York Times was first to report the news.
