USDA problems warn on the jerky beef after consumers complain of plastic parts

The USDA (FSIS) safety and inspection service, issues a public health alert for paired beef products ready to eat (RTE) which can be contaminated by foreign materials, in particular plastic. FSIS did not require a reminder because the affected products are no longer available for purchase.

RTE Beef Jerky Stick products were produced on May 27 and have a shelf life of 18 months. Click here to see the products. The following products subject to the public health alert are:

  • 6.9 oz. Bags containing six 1.15 oz. Vacuum sealed packages containing “Riverbend Ranch Original Beef Stick” with a “best date of 27/11/2026”
  • 6.9 oz. Bags containing six 1.15 oz. Vacuum sealed packages containing the “Riverbend Ranch Jalapeño Beef Stick” with a “best date of 27/11/2026”

The products have “is. 47282 »Printed on the back of the label. These items were sent to a company that distributed more online products and in places nationwide and in Puerto Rico.

The problem was discovered after the company informed the FSI that it received from consumer complaints reporting transparent plastic pieces in beef stick products.

There was no confirmed report of injury or illness due to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness must contact a health care provider.

FSIS fears that certain products are in consumer pantry. Consumers who bought these products are invited not to consume them. These products must be thrown or returned to the place of purchase.
