US Open 2025: Rory McILroy, Scottie Scheffler fight while Bryson Dechambeau is missing Cut and Sam Burns leads to Oakmont | News Golf

Rory McILroy recovered from the start of the nightmare in his second round to sneak until the weekend at the US Open, while defending champion Bryson Dechambeau was shocked early.
The Masters champion seemed to be in danger of missing the cup after following a 74 opening round with two double bogys in his first three holes on Friday at the Oakmont Country Club, to fight – in delicate score conditions – to blur two against 72.
McILroy remained outside the projected cut until two sliceds in his last four holes saw him progress on six, leaving him nine strokes behind the Pace of Sam Burns in a ranking where only three players remain under the peer.
Burns pulled a round of the day 65 to jump to three sous and take a unique advantage compared to the night leader, JJ Spaun, with Viktor Hovland two strokes in third, while Scottie Scheffler, world n ° 1, sits at four years while he wins the major consecutive victories.
McILroy is joined on six over by Xander Schauffele, while the double winner of the US Open of the US Dechambeau titled the outings of the big names after a seven 77 – including five abandoned shots in a section of five holes – saw him miss the cup on 10.
How McILroy survived at the start of the United States
The capricious driving of McILroy at the first let him take four shots to reach the green on his way to a double opening bogey, with another double bogey in four dropping it four for his turn and below the projected cut.
The Northern Irishman failed to take advantage of the fourth by five, but ended a series of pars by making a 30 -foot birdie at the ninth, the hole the hardest on the course, only for Bogey the 11 after finding another Fairway bunker out of the tee.
McILroy launched his frustration iron after a capricious approach in a 12th per five, where he could only be peer, then failed to capitalize on the chances of Birdie above his following two holes to stay eight.
He drove 20 feet at 15 to keep his hopes alive, a week missing the Cup at the RBC Canadian Open, before pulling a corner less than five feet at the last to install a fence birdie.
McILroy did not speak to the media for the second successive day, the 36-year-old need to improve during the weekend to extend his record of six top 10 consecutive to the US Open.
Burns jumps while Dechambeau returns home
Burns set the goal of the clubhouse after a brilliant 65 in the second round Friday morning, carding six birdies and a Bogey, with several of the starters of the afternoon briefly exceeding him, but all unable to correspond to his total.
The finalist of RBC Canadian Open last week ran in the turn in 31 years and has recovered from a bogey at the first – her 10th hole of the day – in Birdie two of her following three holes, with a 22 -foot paragraph test closing the best tour of the day by two shots and giving him the halfway.
“I look forward to the weekend,” said Burns. “It’s a 72 -hole golf tournament, and if you can get a round round here, it doesn’t matter if it’s a penny, you will take it.”
Spaun was briefly two in advance, but finished one behind after four birdies and six Bogeys in her second round, with Lawrence temporarily three after a three -birdie race at the start of her second round.
Lawrence has bogey four of her following five holes and left four shots in a section of three holes after the round, leaving him over with a hole to finish when lightning was suspended at 8:15 p.m. local time (time time in the United Kingdom).
Thomas also turns temporarily for the head before three double bogeys during his following four holes saw him two, with 22 players less than six strokes of the advance.
Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa are four years old alongside Scheffler, who insisted that he did not get out of the US Open Content despite a first 71 keeping him seven blows of the rhythm, while Phil Mickelson – during the last year of his last four tables.
Dechambeau Shock missed the cup after doing eight bogeys and a double bogey in an irregular second round, while Tommy Fleetwood (+9), the American champion of the US Open Dustin Johnson (+10) and Shane Lowry (+17) did not progress either.
