Ukrainian Foreign Minister appeals for funds for drones

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha appealed to his country’s supporters for funds to increase drone production.

He wrote on X on Sunday that Russian President Vladimir Putin would only end the war if two conditions were met.

First, Putin had to lose “the illusion that he could possibly win on the battlefield.” Second, the price of continuing the war had to be greater than the price of ending it.

“The modern arms race is not about nuclear weapons, but about millions of cheap drones,” the minister wrote. “Those who can increase production more quickly will guarantee peace.”

He said Ukraine’s defense industry needs money to make this happen. “We can produce up to 20 million drones next year if we get enough funding.” Sybiha did not cite a specific amount.

Ukraine has been producing tens of thousands of different drones for months. Unmanned aircraft are manufactured both by the traditional defense industry and by private companies trying to give Ukraine a technological advantage through innovative products.

Drones, which are produced for a fraction of the cost of expensive weapons systems, have already given rise to new forms of warfare. Russia and Ukraine are deploying drones in large numbers. However, neither side discloses exact production figures.
