Who directs “Superman”?
James Gunn wrote and produced “Superman”, which finished post-production in early June. Disney and Marvel Studios temporarily shot Gunn between the second and third films “Guardians of the Galaxy”, allowing him to write and direct “The Suicide Squad” for DC. He then became Co-PDG of DC Studios after his return to Marvel, trying to relaunch the world of the DC film.
What is the problem with the dog?
A large part of the marketing campaign for “Superman” highlights Krypto, a dog and a super-alive companion in Superman. Beginning in “Adventure Comics # 210” of 1955, Krypto generally arrives on earth as a survivor of Krypton, just like Kal-El himself. Krypto appeared for the first time on the big screen in the animation of 2022 “DC League of Super-Pet” expressed by Dwayne Johnson.
Gunn made his debut on his version of Krypto – a character entirely CGI – in October during adopting a month of refuge dogs. Krypto was revealed in a moving poster sitting alongside Superman on the Moon – a reference to an emblematic panel of Grant Morrison and “All -Star Superman” by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitly. In a tweet, Gunn said that Krypto was partially based on Ozu, a dog he saved from a hoarding situation and which “was problematic to say the least.”
“I remember thinking:” My God, how difficult life would be if Ozu had superpowers? ” – And so Krypto entered the script and changed the shape of the story while Ozu changed my life. »»
What comes after “Superman”?
“Superman” marks the first feature film of a new DC universe directed by Gunn and the CO-PDG Peter Safran. “Creature Commandos”, an animated series that Gunn created for Max, became the first official project of the DCU when it was released at the end of 2024 and at the beginning of 2025. The series, which presents the first appearance of Rick Flag Sr. by Frank Grillo, has already been renewed for a second season.
After “Superman”, the next DCU project will be the second season of “Peacemaker”, which will be presented in first on August 21. Because “Peacemaker” began as part of the previous DC franchise (with cameos from the 2017 Justice League range), the second season will serve both as a continuation and a soft restart of the series to integrate it into the new universe. It seems that Gunn has fully adopted the disorder of the Canon comics.
A certain number of other projects have been announced and planned for the DCU, including the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which precedes, the other entries include a solo clay functionality in September 2026, a” Swamp Thing “film directed by James Mangold and a television series focused on TheMyscira. Batman and Wonder Woman, among other heroes, also have new films en route.
Is “Superman” based on specific comics?
Although “Superman” does not directly adapt any scenario, Gunn declared on the wires he was inspired by a number of comics and specific adaptations.
Superman’s logo in the film reflects a costume carried by the character of “Kingdom Come” by Alex Ross and Alex Ross. Released in 1996, the story presents an older superman back to heroism after being unsubscribed by a new generation of violent vigilants. The use of this logo can point out a thematic connection with “Kingdom Come” in the film, while the bands suggest that Superman tackles his place in a world of political agendas and heroes supported by companies.
“Kingdom Come” appears in a “Superman” link box that will be released in August. Also included “Superman for All Seasons” by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, “All-Star Superman” by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitly, and “What Arride to the Man of Tomorrow” by Curt Swan and Curt Swan? – Three classic Superman adventures featuring the first and last days of the steel man. Gunn’s film will be likely to draw at least a tonal inspiration from each.
DC Comics published a reprint in facsimile of the first appearance of Krypto, “Adventure Comics # 210”, on June 18. Two lucky fans will find the Krypto Golden Biscuit stickers in their copies, which they can use to claim tickets for the world first of “Superman”.
