UCF’s offensive line coach Shawn Clark died Sunday evening at the age of 50.

The school said that he was spending unexpectedly in a hospital in Orlando with his wife, Jonelle, by his side.

Clark, who was in his first season with the Knights, was in a stable state since his admitted on September 9 following a medical emergency.

“Shawn was much more than a coach. He was a remarkable man, husband and father who cared deeply about his players and his staff,” said UCF head coach Scott Frost. “The reaction of our players and coaches to the news this morning is a testimony to the character of Shawn and the impact he had on each life he touched. He was loved. Our thoughts and our prayers are with his wife, Jonelle, and his children, Giana and Braxton. We are there to support them and will continue to keep them in our hearts and our prayers.”

Clark was the Alma Mater Appalachian State head coach for five seasons from 2019 to 24, finishing 40-24 with a Bowl 3-1 record.

“We have a heart broken by the death of Shawn,” said UCF sports director Terry Mohajir. “He brought passion, integrity and a true love for people to everything he has done. Shawn will remain memories not only for his impact on the football game, but also for the relations he has established and the example he gave as husband and father. Our biggest condolences go to his wife and children during this difficult period.”

Clark, originally from Virginie-Western, held coach positions in Louisville, in eastern Kentucky, Purdue and Kent State before joining the staff of the Appalachian State in 2016.

The state of the Appalachians dismissed Clark last December following a season of 5-6, the first losing season of Mountaineers since 2013.

Clark was a selection of twice American and triple conferences as an offensive line player in the appearance of 1994 to 1998.
