Tyler Perry Studios renamed “She People” of “She People” by “Miss Governor” in the middle of the brand trial

Last week, the studios Tyler Perry renamed his political comedy “She the People” in the middle of the current disputes accuses Tyler Perry and the star of the series and executive producer Terre J. Vaughn of having raised the name of the Netflix comedy of the non -profit political organization of the same name.
Vaughn, Tyler Vision LLC and Netflix were continued earlier this year by the Founder of the People Aimee Allison for brand counterfeiting and unfair competition. The activist said that the Mississippi Capitol-Set comedy series stole her name on her own brand work. Allison’s non -profit organization has been founded to empower and embrace women of color in a new political era; The Netflix series follows Vaughn like Antoinette Dunkerson, the first Lieutenant-Black Governor in the State of Magnolia.
The brand counterfeiting trial was filed in California on May 19, just before the first series of May 22 of “She the People” on Netflix. On July 4, the streamer started the trailer of season 1, part 2 of the series, also revealing his change of title to “Miss Governor”. The second half of season 1 begins on August 14.
“Since at least 2018 since 2018, Ms. Allison has used the brand” She the People “continuously and in good place to identify and distinguish her recognized work on a national scale to advance the political voice, leadership and the influence of women of color,” said the trial. “Under this brand, Ms. Allison launched the first national summit Centering Women of Color in Politics in 2018,” summoned the first presidential forum focused on colored women in 2019 and continued to use the brand on the main media, philanthropic and civic platforms. “
In the costume, Allison claims that she has been in possession of the brand “She The People” since 2018, covering political comments, conferences, blogs, books and podcasts. The court documents also indicate that on September 8, 2024, Tyler Vision of Perry filed a brand request “Elle les People” for his television series, but the request was refused in April of last year “due to a probability of confusion with the registrations of Allison”.
The plaintiff also alleges that she worked with the star of the series and EP Vaughn via her entertainment production company Nina Holiday in 2020 on a documentary series on colored women in politics, also entitled “She The People”.
“Vaughn worked directly with Allison on this project,” said the costume. “Among other things, Vaughn has worked with Allison to develop themes for the documentary, organize and conduct interviews with subjects and prepare pitch decks to promote and request funding for the documentary.” The trial affirms that all intellectual property should be preserved by the non -profit people of Allison.
Regarding the Netflix series in Vaughn, Allison says that the title of the series “falsely indicates to consumers that the parties are sponsored, affiliated or linked to each other”. The non -profit organization, according to its website, has a “mission to strengthen power for women of color to lead America to a new political era”. He uses educational programs, media, writing and live events to raise the political power of women of color.
“The counterfeit brand is identical to Allison that it marks the people,” said the costume, declaring that the spectacle presents political themes that resonate with women of color that closely overlap the original brand of Allison. “The actions of the defendants are deliberate, voluntary and constitute a violation of knowledge.”
The prosecution requires a trial by jury and that Perry stops the use of “She the People”, that the promotion of the Netflix series under this title is blocked, that Tyler Vision of Perry abandons his brand request. Allison’s pursuit also requests monetary repair for damages, lawyers’ fees and punitive costs and damages.
Netflix representatives refused the request for Thewrap comments.
