Two horror films by Stephen King Surge on HBO Max ahead of Halloween

We are October, which means it is time to only watch horror films for next month. In the Halloween head, it is appropriate that the vast canon of the kind of horror is made up, which has been omnipresent throughout the cinema since its same creation. Indeed, there are so many trends and horror sub-genres that each October can be specially programmed to represent a very specific horror niche. Are you late on your Italian zombie films? There are SCADs. Found-Footage? Easy to find. Lesbian vampires? So, so much. Avalent of wolf garus on a motorcycle? More than you think.

And many are probably preparing to watch a marathon of movies and television shows based on the writings of Stephen King. A massively prolific author, King has seen his work adapt to the screen again and again, starting with the release of “Carrie” by Brian de Palma in 1976. King’s adaptations have been published almost every year since then, with two large large ones already released in 2025: “The Monkey” and the very Celbrated “The Long Walk”. Certain adaptations of the king continued to reveal entire franchises; By counting the short film “The Disciples of the Crow”, there were 12 films “Children of the Corn”. It is a lot of films centered on a grain of cereals.

Two King adaptations are currently very popular on HBO Max (by Flixpatrol), one of which can surprise. Unsurprisingly, subscribers of the 2017 “IT” re-regard service, the mega-blockbuster based on King’s novel in 1986. “It”, directed by Andy Muschietti, has since become a full-fledged horror stone, with its monstrous clown Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) canonized in the theogony of memorable film monsters. Unexpectedly, however, the 2024 cinematographic version of “Salem’s Lot” (based on King’s Vampire’s novel in 1975) is also a cartography.

Lot and Lot of Salem tear the graphics

“It” was, as mentioned, a gigantic success at the box office in 2017. King’s original novel is sadly long (it works 1,138 pages), so Muschietti’s film only adapts the first half of the story. It was easy to achieve, however, because the first part of the book takes place in the 1950s when the protagonists are every 12 years, while the second half takes place in 1986, when they are all traumatized and dysfunctional adults. Muschietti’s film only spends the time the events to do, putting the things of childhood in the 1980s in the 1980s. Adult stuff was then adapted in “It Chapter Two” of 2019 (another huge success).

The popularity of the “Lot of Salem” is however surprising, because it did not draw a lot of attention when it first released HBO Max in 2024. The film was originally to arrive in theaters in 2022, but it was delayed during the post-production for reasons related to COVVID. He was then delayed again during the infamous sale of Warner Bros./discovery shots, then once again due to the WGA / SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023. He finally arrived at a minimum of fanfare and intermediate criticisms (like that of / Chris Evangelista of the film).

“It” and “” Salem’s Lot “had also been transformed into famous television mini-series.” It “was adapted in 1990, while” “Salem’s Lot” made its way to CBS in 1979. The “IT” of 1990 and the “Lot de Salem” of 1979 were widely seen and are loved in the horror community. “” Salem’s Lot “even inspired a 1987 television suite entitled” Return to ‘Salem’s Lot “, as well as a second adaptation of mini-series on TNT in 2004. There was also a 2021 television series entitled” Chapelwaite “, which was based on the King of the 1850s” “” Preaquel Story “Jery”.

Presumably, “Salem’s Lot” (2024) has attracted more attention since many people missed it last year. However, it’s a lot of “lot”.
