Tunisia follows Morocco in a punch ticket after a dramatic qualification victory

Tunisia won its place during the 2026 World Cup with a spectacular victory against Equatorial Guinea on Monday.

Morocco has become the first African team to reserve their place in the 2026 finals, the 2022 semi-finalists who did it in style with a 5-0 victory against Niger.

It was a much less common victory for Tunisia, which required a goal from the 94th minute of Mohamed Ben Romdhane to win a 1-0 victory in Malabo.

Firas Chaouat stole Saul Coco with possession on the right side, giving it a clear path to go while Equatorial Guinea was taken on the counter. Chaouat square in Romdhane, who had the simple task of going home at close range with goalkeeper Jesus Owono completely helpless.

The victory gives Tunisia an unassailable advance at the top of the H CAF qualification group with two games to play.

Tunisia will make a third successive appearance in the final, although they have never progressed beyond the group phase. The tournament went from 32 teams to 48 with the eight best finish in third place who progress from the group phase, the Carthage Eagles will be confident to modify this record in 2026.
