Tsunami Advisory issued in Alaska after the massive earthquake hit Russia near the Historic Temblor site in July

Adak, Alaska – An earthquake 7.8 off the coast of Russia sparked a tsunami opinion for the hazard islands in Alaska on Thursday.

The earthquake struck just before 11 a.m., Alaska day time (3 p.m. HE) and was centered approximately 90 miles east of Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka, according to US Geological Survey.

A tsunami opinion extends from the Amchitka pass, in Alaska, (about 125 miles west of Adak) in Attu, in Alaska.

All Tsunami waves would reach Shemya around 12:20 AM AKDT (4:20 p.m.)

Tsunami’s opinion is a low -round alert for a tsunami, published when small waves can have an impact on an area. Strong currents could be dangerous for people in or near water, and minor floods of beaches and ports are possible.

No other American or Canadian continental location is in an alert area, according to the American tsunamis alert center. However, the agency warns that there may be waves of tsunami from 3 to 9 feet (1 to 3 meters) along certain parts of the Russian coast.

The earthquake is probably a replica of the historic earthquake of 8.8 which struck on July 29, sending Tsunami alerts to a large part of the Pacific Ocean. Although some minor waves have been reported in Hawaii along the American West Coast, no significant damage has been reported.

Updates to follow soon.
