Trump tries to convince New York that he will make additional reprisals if she Élise Mamdani

President Donald Trump, in his second term, was notably set on his hometown and local governance. At the beginning of this year, he bought Mayor Eric Adams by making a criminal indictment disappear over his head. Then, while Adams faced horrible survey numbers and a trio of general electoral challenges – among which the Charismatic Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani – members of the Trump administration would have thought about various ways of inducing Adams again, in the hope of pushing him to abandon his candidacy for re -election and unifying the anti -Mamdani vote. Adams abandoned Sunday – without, at least as far as we know, any agreement with the Trump administration.

Now Trump has made his last foray into the race of the Mayor of New York with a more subtle interference in the elections on social truth Monday.

Trump has been obsessed with Mamdani’s candidacy for some time now, painting the candidate – who led a successful primary campaign by focusing closely on accessibility problems – like a kind of radical and left madman. In his social article of truth on Monday, Trump did his usual thing to call Mamdani a communist (who is different from a democratic socialist), then tried a new approach: he threatened to retain federal funding from New York if Mamdani is elected.

“He will have problems with Washington as no mayor in the history of our former city. Remember, he needs money on my part, as president, in order to keep all his false communist promises. He will not get it, so what is the point of voting for him? ” Trump wrote.

But is it really about Mamdani? Trump sought ways to retain federal funding from New York and blue cities in general since he returned for the first time. He did so under the guise of a repression on the states and the municipalities which have set up sanctuary protections which could interfere with his campaign of mass detention and expulsion. It is a coverage to punish parts of the country that have not voted for him and to show their Democratic leaders who are really in charge. This is also what its deployment during the troops of the National Guard in American cities led by Democrats is a subject, despite the transparent claims of difficult repression on crime.

Trump has thought about how he could retain federal funding from blue cities since he was back to the White House and one of the first actions of his Ministry of Justice on his return consisted in issuing a warning to the State authorities and local officials who did not cooperate with Trump’s expulsion program. In April, Trump signed a directing decree, the Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Krisi Noem internal security secretary to begin to follow “the local states and jurisdictions which hinder the application of federal immigration laws (courts of the sanctuary)”. The president also ordered Russ Vought, director of the White House management and budget office, to “identify the federal funds appropriate to the jurisdictions of the sanctuary, including subsidies and contracts, for suspension or termination, if necessary.”

By threatening to overcome the city of New York of its federal funding if Mamdani wins, Trump simply tries to recondition something that his administration is already actively looking for. Doing it on the race for New York town hall gives it another chance of accumulating the continuous demonization by the republican party of a popular and energizing left -wing political candidate.

Bribière, election interference or both!

Although he did not mention the mayor Adams in his social post Truth on Monday, the aforementioned efforts of the Trump administration reported efforts to encourage Adams to abandon to help consolidate the democrats for the former New York governor in disgrace and the candidate for the independent mayor Andrew Cuomo – whom Mamdani defeated by hand for democratic appointment – lounge breed. There had been several reports according to which the Trump team and Adams discussed a possible position of housing and urban development or a potential embassy for Saudi Arabia, which would be a comic gift for a man who was initially charged for an alleged corruption involving another country in the Middle East, in Türkiye.

The first time the Trump administration brought the mayor Adams under their thumb ties to the above. Earlier this year, the politically compromised ministry of justice tried to reject these accusations of corruption against Adams, with the aim of forcing Adams to allow the ice to walk freely in protected spaces through the city. The DoJ sought to have the accusations reject without prejudice, which means that they could bring them back at any time if Adams moved away from their good graces. In the end, a judge rejected the accusations of damage.

It was another form of this current dynamic because Trump uses his second mandate to, among other things, the power of flexion on spaces that he has no direct authority on (cities and states where Democrats are in charge).

Meanwhile, the closure of the imminent government

The republican management at the congress withdraws all the judgments today to paint any potential judgment of the government as a problem caused by the Democrats, even if they hold the majority in both chambers. Republicans need a handful of democrats to join them in order to pass a continuous resolution to keep the government open. The head of the majority, John Thune (R-SD), said that the Senate would vote on the CR adopted by the Chamber on Tuesday. Currently, Democrats do not plan to support the legislation (although there are reports that the DEMS could help the Republicans to adopt a 10 -day CR) and are, at least Monday evening, to stick to their requests that the Republicans extend the subsidies of Obamacare in exchange for their votes.
