Trump removes protected status from Somalis in Minnesota, promises to ‘send them back’, Ilhan Omar hits back – RedState

President Trump issued a scathing statement Friday evening ending the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) of thousands of Somali nationals in Minnesota.

The move, which is expected to take effect immediately, links the decision to massive fraud uncovered in recent days, with taxpayers’ money allegedly being funneled to the al-Shabaab terrorist group.

“Minnesota, under the leadership of (Democratic) Governor (Tim Walz), is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity,” Trump announced on his Truth social media platform. “As President of the United States, I am terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS program) granted to Somalis in Minnesota.”

“Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of this great state and BILLIONS of dollars are missing. Send them back where they came from,” he said sternly. “It’s FINISHED!”

The federal government is now considering the “Feeding Our Future” organization. for Possible Fraud – Is Minnesota Governor Walz Involved?

With Minnesota still reeling from the $250 million Feeding Our Future fraud case and new reports of terrorism funding through the state’s Somali community, Trump’s decision is a direct blow to the front of the progressive stronghold.

A report this week by City Journal made the fraud involved in the COVID-era Feeding Our Future program seem like a mere scam by comparison. Minnesota, according to the report, suffered billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded fraud under Walz, with much of that fraud allegedly perpetrated by members of the state’s large Somali community.

They managed to take advantage of one of the most generous welfare systems in the country: Minnesota’s Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services program. Meanwhile, Democratic officials and the complacent media turned a blind eye.

We are talking about billions of dollars of lost public funds. And it’s even worse. Federal counterterrorism sources told City Journal that millions of stolen dollars were funneled to Somalia and ended up funding the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

A confidential source told the outlet: “Al-Shabaab’s biggest funder is the Minnesota taxpayer. »

Minnesota has one of the largest Somali communities in the country. The TPS program offers Somali nationals a temporary pass to live and work here legally because their home is a war zone.

TPS for Somalis was last extended under the Biden administration and was scheduled to last until March 17, 2026. Not anymore. It is, as the president declares, “finished.”

A defiant Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-5), responding to a random X-count, hit back at President Trump’s decision to end TPS for Somalis in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

“I’m a citizen, just like the majority of Somalis in America. Good luck celebrating a policy change that doesn’t really impact the Somalis you love to hate,” she retorted. “We are here to stay.”

Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, which encompasses most of Minneapolis and surrounding Hennepin and Ramsey counties, is home to the largest concentration of Somali Americans in the United States.

Last June, President Trump restricted the entry of foreign nationals from Somalia, calling the country a haven for terrorists.

Omar moved to the United States in 1995, when she was 12 years old. She and her family fled civil war in Somalia and lived in a refugee camp in Kenya for four years before resettling in the United States.

Trump has often reminded her that the country is hell, and when she criticizes the United States, she can always book a flight home.

“I love these people. They come from a place where there is nothing. Nothing. Nothing,” Trump said after an unsuccessful attempt to censure the congresswoman. “And then they tell us how to run our country.”
