Trump Memo asks the beneficiaries of federal funds to prohibit Dei programs

Washington – The American Ministry of Justice published a memo on Wednesday which asked the beneficiaries of federal funds to prohibit the programs of diversity, equity and inclusion, which President Donald Trump has aimed to dismantle since his entry in January.
Trump has adopted decrees aimed at restricting Dei’s memo, but Wednesday’s note has exposed specific examples of actions which, according to the beneficiaries of the Federal Fund, should restrict – as certain training sessions and policies intended for protected groups. He also said that federal funds should not be used to support third parties who are engaged in Dei.
The recipients of federal funds range from schools, colleges and universities to non -profit organizations and private companies which are government entrepreneurs. The memo was published publicly by the Ministry of Justice.
In an example to support one of its recommendations, the memo said that “a scholarship program should not target” poorly served geographic areas “or” first generation students “if the criteria are chosen to increase participation by specific racial or sex groups.”
He added: “Instead, use universally applicable criteria, such as academic merit or financial difficulties, applied regardless of protected characteristics or demographic objectives.”
In another recommendation, he said that a program targeting low -income students “must be applied uniformly without targeting areas or populations to achieve racial or sex -based results”.
Federal law already prohibits discrimination for reasons of race, sex and ethnicity. He faced legal repression. Several private companies have returned such initiatives in recent months.
The Dei programs have been part of the workplace diversity efforts to ensure a more equitable representation for groups considered historically historically, such as African-Americans and other ethnic minorities in the United States, members of the LGBTQ +community, women and people with disabilities.
Defenders of civil rights say that Dei helps to approach the continuous effects of historical and generational inequalities and aims to eliminate systemic barriers for groups affected by a heritage of racism, sexism and xenophobia.
Trump and his allies say that the other Americans unfairly discriminate, including whites and men, and weakens the importance of merit in hiring or employment promotion. DEI practices include training on how to combat discrimination, to deal with inequalities of remuneration in gender or racial lines and widening of recruitment and access to under-represented ethnic groups.
The Trump administration has threatened to reduce the federal funds given to institutions on a series of questions such as pro-Palestinian demonstrations against the United States Ally Israel in Gaza, climate initiatives, transgender policies and Dei programs.
