Sam Burgess: President of Warrington Wolves, Stuart Middleton, trains the head coach to continue despite the bad season of Super League | Rugby League news

The president of Warrington Wolves, Stuart Middleton, confirmed that Sam Burgess will remain coach next season, but admitted that “things should change” after a glow in the countryside.
The hopes of Warrington to reach the eliminations of Betfred Super League were left in doubt after a defeat of 25-12 at home against the Red Devils financially struck on Friday, their fifth defeat in six matches.
The latest setback leaves Warrington in eighth place and six points behind Wakefield’s sixth trinity with only three games to play in the regular season, which led to speculations to find out if Burgess would remain head coach.
BURGESS – who is a year old on his contract – said he was “hired” to the club after Friday defeat, Middleton publishing a declaration to the supporters to confirm that the 36 -year -old will remain at the Halliwell Jones stadium beyond this campaign.
“Sam Burgess has the full support of the game group,” said Middleton. “He will direct Warrington Wolves in 2026 as a chief coach. He is ambitious, motivated and determined to do things correctly.
“We remain attached to our vision of building a team based on local talents and, with our academy ending the undefeated regular season, the future seems brilliant.
“Recruitment is essential and must be better, but allow me to be clear, there will be no passengers. Two new players have already been announced, with other updates to follow as the change is implemented.
“We cannot ignore the impact of injuries to key players in our season and the disturbance that this causes our combinations. However, even if it is a factor, it is not an excuse. You, fans, deserve better.
“This club does not exist without you. Now, it is up to us to recover your support, not with words, but with performances that reflect what this city and this community represent.”
Warrington welcomes Leigh Leopards on Saturday (3 p.m.) before going to the Hull FC the following week (5.30 p.m.), then rounding the regular season with a trip outside at Hull Kr on September 19 (8 p.m.).
Middleton added: “”This season has not met the standards we are expecting. In the past few days, I sat with players, coaches and club staff. The message was clear and united: it’s not good enough, and things have to change.
“Our supporters work hard all week and spend their hard money to follow this club. We understand the sacrifices you make, and it is our responsibility to reimburse this faith with committed and honest performances.”
Burgess “ confused ”, but insists for “a lot to play” for “
Warrington won only 10 of his 24 games in the Super League campaign, leaving them in danger of missing the play-offs for the second time in eight seasons.
Burgess said: “I am under contract for next year. I believe in this club and in the structure of the place, but I undoubtedly have a difficult job to do during the dead.
“I am sure there will be questions to answer and I will manage this as you go. It’s a difficult night [Salford loss]Really hard and not the first time it happened.
“The players seem in a difficult place. It just doesn’t work for us right now. We have lost a little of our mind and I’m as confused as everyone.”
He added: “There is still a lot to play; we have just lost a little of our mind. I am as confused as everyone. I have no answers at the moment, if I am completely honest. I tried everything that worked with me and in teams of which I have been part, but for the moment, it just doesn’t work.”
