Pittsburgh Steelers: three defensive players injured during the opening
The Pittsburgh steelers started their season with an emotional victory, but three defensive players were injured in the process.
The coin half leaving Joey Porter Jr. (ischio-legs) left the 34-32 Sunday victory on the New York jets, as are two former Ravens, starting safety Deshon Elliott (knee) and the second Malik Harrison (knee).
Head coach Mike Tomlin said after the match that Elliott and Harrison injuries were “evaluated” and that was closed to prevent his hamstry injury from worsening, via the Steelers website.
Pittsburgh’s defense had trouble containing Justin Fields, the former quarter of the Steelers making his debut with the jets. Fields injured the steelers with his arm (16 for 22, 218 yards, a touchdown) and with his legs (48 yards on the ground, two affected).
It took a goal on the 60 yards of Chris Boswell with 1:03 to do so that the Steelers prevail. Tomlin was happy to escape but recognized that there was a lot of room for improvement.
“Our shift appeared in certain regions,” said Tomlin. “We did not put enough pressure on Justin. There were cases where we were not good enough.”
However, Aaron Rodgers was superb in the beginnings of his Steelers, launching four Touché passes (22 for 30, 244 yards, no affected) to take revenge from the organization of the jets who separated from him last season.
“There were probably people in the organization who no longer thought I could play,” said Rodgers via Brooke Pryor from Espn.com. “So it was nice to remind these people that I can still.”
The Steelers will welcome the Seattle Seahawks (0-1) during week 2.
