Too expensive ice cream in Germany, but it’s more expensive elsewhere

Generate key dishes to remember

With temperatures in many places in Germany which should approach 30 degrees Celsius this weekend, there is really only one solution: head to the nearest ice cream fair.

But while the prices of a spoon of icy treat do not drive you crazy, they could make you at least a little bored, according to a Yougov survey commanded by DPA and published on Saturday.

Almost two -thirds (64%) of people in Germany think that the prices of ice cream are too high, has shown an investigation into approximately 2,000 people aged 18 and over.

Six in 10 respondents said they “always command” or “sometimes” less scoops due to the increase in prices against five years ago. For 28%, however, the price has no impact on the number of scoops they buy. Most people buy two scoops (50%) or three scoops (23%).

Scoops costs € 1.30 ($ 1.52) at € 2.80

In some regions of Germany, ice cream has become more expensive compared to last year. “Some ice cream salons have increased their prices,” said Annalisa Carnio, spokesperson for the association of Italian ice cream manufacturers in Germany (Uniteis).

However, overall, the price level has remained relatively stable because inflation, as in other food sectors, has relaxed.

And the display of ice cream rarely complain, said Carnio.

“Customers know that everything has become more expensive. Some grunts, but they are a minority,” she said.

Uniteis represents the interests of 900 members with approximately 2,000 ice cream salons that produce their own ice.
