Tommy Brennan talks about growing up in Minnesota on ‘SNL’

Tommy Brennan, one of the few Minnesotans to become a cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” hasn’t had much screen time since the 51st season began. Everything changed this weekend.
Brennan played himself in a guest segment on “Weekend Update,” talking to Colin Jost about what it was like moving to New York.
His monologue relied heavily on his snippets of his stand-up routine and the fact that he was from Minnesota.
“I’m from the Midwest,” he said, wearing a gold jacket that could have passed for a Gophers item. “I don’t know if it shows in my kind eyes and my secret drinking problem.”
He joked that he was one of eight children and that his family had a cafeteria-style milk machine at home. He also made fun of his All-American appearance.
“I look like a medallion picture taken in World War I,” he said. “Like I was a guy who was really good at pre-integration into football.”
Brennan did not appear much during the remainder of this season’s third episode, although he appeared as a dancer who violently whips a motivational speaker played by host Sabrina Carpenter.
