NYT Connections fans, we’re used to this. Today’s purple category requires you to remove the starting letter from four words and spot their connection once you’ve done that. If you need help, you’ve come to the right place. Read on for clues and today’s Connections answers.

The Times now has a Connections Bot, like Wordle’s. Go there after playing to receive a numerical score and have the program analyze your answers. Players registered in the Times Games section can now track their progress, including the number of completed puzzles, win rate, number of times they achieved a perfect score, and their winning streak.

Tips for Today’s Connections Groups

Here are four clues for today’s Connections puzzle groupings, ordered from the easiest yellow group to the difficult (and sometimes weird) purple group.

Yellow group index: Glare, entry.

Green group index: Short version.

Blue group index: Stop!

Purple group index: Not humans, and delete a letter.

Yellow words in today’s Connections

The theme is captivating. The four responses are absorb, engage, retain and occupy.

Green words in today’s Connections

The theme is brief. The four answers are brief, summarized, summarized and revised.

Blue words in today’s Connections

The theme is stopping. The four answers are check, curb, steadfast and contain.

Purple words in today’s Connections

The theme is animals without the starting letter. The four answers are anther, easel, listen and llama. (Panther, weasel, shark and llama. Yes, “anther” is a real word.)

Quick Tips for Connections

#1: Say the clue words out loud, pausing before and after each. This helps you hear words in the context of a sentence. The Connections editors love to group words used in similar phrasing, like ____ Up.

#2: Don’t go for the obvious grouping. These editors are smart. Once they came up with SPONGE, BOB, SQUARE and PANTS in the same puzzle. None of these words belonged to the same category. If you like, press the “Shuffle” button to give yourself a different perspective on the words.

#3: Break down all the compound words and look for similarities. “Rushmore” once appeared in a puzzle where the connection was that each word began with the name of a rock band.
