Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross announce separation after 9 years

Mel Gibson and his longtime partner Rosalind Ross announced the end of their relationship before the start of the new year.
“While it is sad to end this chapter of our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and we will continue to be the best parents we can,” the couple said in a joint statement to People on Tuesday.
According to the outlet, Gibson and Ross quietly split about a year ago.
Gibson and Ross, a 35-year-old Oscar-winning screenwriter, met through mutual friends in 2014 and began dating shortly after. In 2017, they welcomed their son, Lars, just days before Gibson was nominated for a Best Director Oscar for “Hacksaw Ridge.” Lars was Gibson’s first child with Ross and ninth overall.
“What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son in my arms,” Gibson said in a statement at the time. “It’s a truly wonderful honor.”
The 69-year-old “Braveheart” star shares his first seven children – Hannah, Edward, Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas – with his first wife, Australian dental nurse Robyn Moore. She filed for divorce in 2009, and Gibson soon began dating Russian pianist and composer Oksana Grigorieva. The couple welcomed their daughter, Lucia, in 2009, then ended their relationship early the following year. Their split was followed by a lengthy legal and custody battle before Gibson finally hooked up with Ross.
In January 2025, the couple lost their Malibu, California home as wildfires ravaged the Los Angeles area. Gibson was away for work at the time, but his family and pets escaped the residence unharmed. Since then, Gibson has focused on “The Resurrection of the Christ,” a sequel to his 2004 film, “The Passion of the Christ.”
