Tips for a fabulous fall garden

An autumn garden can be a great and generous place – not a space that makes us cry on summer glory days, but somewhere that allows us to revel in the beauty and abundance of the season.

Fall is certainly my favorite period of the year, and perhaps the period of the year when I appreciate and appreciates my own garden especially.

Unfortunately, many gardeners seem to focus so on summer that the garden can fade during the fall and not be up to its full potential at this time of the year.

If you live in a warmer climatic zone, you can undoubtedly cultivate annual cultures outside all year round. You can already sow and cultivate fresh seasonal crops for winter in the fall.

It is also a time when you can harvest seeds from other plants in space, as well as the spread of plants in other ways.

Not only do plants producing sustainable food in your garden – trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials – allow you to harvest abundant yields from an autumn garden, but they can also be wonderful and attract a lot of fauna to look at you and take advantage of the year.

Choose native plants for a diversified fall garden

Whether for food production, for ornamental spaces, or both, it’s always a good idea to look at the native plants first. Plants from your region must always constitute a high proportion of the plants you cultivate.

The selection of many native plants which flowers or arouses another interest in autumn can help you stimulate biodiversity, and, of course, they seem charming and at home. The databases of native plants for your region can become racing lists for a diversified fall garden.

Use and value falling sheets

Of course, some of the useful plants for an autumn garden are those with colored foliage. When deciduous leaf trees drop their leaves later in the season, creating a fabulous fall garden means making the most of these leaves that have fallen as a resource to keep your garden well and grow.

To make the most of the fall leaves, you can use them as mulch to protect the soil and winter plants (like garlic, for example), make a leaf mold to enrich the floor and / or fill planters or containers, or perhaps even to take fun arts and crafts to enjoy their colors and shapes inside your home.

Add the characteristics of the garden for fun all year round

Making a fabulous fall garden mainly concerns the plants you choose to cultivate and the ways you choose to garden. But the gardens should not be entirely on hard work, and you can also take measures to make sure you can fully enjoy the space – not just in summer but also in cooler seasons.

Covered seats, garden buildings, outdoor heat sources (such as households or outdoor fireplaces, for example), and perhaps outdoor lighting can help you enjoy your garden in the fall as you do in summer.
