Tina Charles du Connecticut Sun receives the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award Prize

The WNBA announced Wednesday morning that the Connecticut Sun striker Tina Charles was appointed recipient in 2025 of the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award.

This price highlights a current WNBA player who best represents what it means to be a leader in the community. The eight time All-Star receives the Dawn Staley Award for the second time in his career, after winning this recognition in 2012.

“In all aspects of her game and her character, Tina is a representation of the ideals and the spirit of the Dawn Staley Community Management Prize,” said WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert in the press release.

“Throughout her remarkable career, Tina has always used her platform to raise awareness and stimulate significant changes. Its dedication to service, advocacy and restore it to the community reflects the values ​​that define our league. Tina continues to build a legacy that will inspire the generations to come. ”

Hopey’s Heart Foundation is a family foundation founded by Charles in 2013, named after his aunt aunt, Maureen “Hopey” Vaz, in order to raise awareness of a sudden cardiac arrest and to provide automated automated (AED) defibrillators (AED) to organizations in need.

This year, the Charles Foundation will place its 500th AED, a monumental stage which was supported by the promise of Yale New Haven Health of $ 20,000 to support the AED distribution.

Charles has a long-standing story to be a defender of racial and social justice and to use his platform to raise the voices of the community and promote systemic change. His previous selection for this prize came from his work and financial support to open the construction of a Ganali school, a village in Mali.

“Tina Charles illustrates what it means to be a leader on and off the field,” said Dawn Staley in the press release. “We are delighted to recognize his tireless efforts beyond the game during his career, creating a deep and permanent impact in the whole sports community.”

Charles also linked his performance on the ground to his community work efforts outside the field and helped involve fans along the way. Thanks to Charles Rebound Charity Challenge, fans can donate to Hopey on the number of rebounds that the old MVP seizes.

“Thanks to my mother at a young age, I learned that the importance of being a servant for others, and the reception of the Prix de la Directorate de Dawn Staley is really special for me – especially for Hopey’s Heart Foundation to receive this honor thanks to his work to raise awareness of a sudden cardiac arrest,” said Charles in the press release.

An appointed committee has selected Charles as a winner of the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Prize. The WNBA will make a donation of $ 10,000 to Charles’ Charitable Foundation, Hopey’s Heart Foundation.
