“ We should have been more aggressive last summer ”

Man City President Kaldoon Al-Mubarak said last week that he thought they should have been more aggressive on the transfer market last summer.

Al-Moubarak admitted that the club did not end “anywhere” reached its objectives in 2024/25, but that the lessons were learned following their disappointing season.

Having won four of the last five Premier League titles, City was mainly out of the race by the end of November this time and found itself without a single major trophy in their name for the first time since 2016/17, the first season of Pep Guardiola in charge.

In his annual interview after the season, he declared to the club website: “There have been many challenges that we have never dealt personally, professionally, in the past 17 years combined.

“And the culmination of this is an experience which, I believe, will be invaluable for us in the future.

“This year is another year when I think that when I look back, last summer, we should probably have been more aggressive in some of the changes we had to make.

“We did not do this and it ended up costing us this year. We have already started this reconstruction of this team in January.

“Normally, we like to do our business in summer and it is only in the case of an emergency, a special need that appears,” let us really do business in January.

“It’s our MO at least for seven or eight years. But in January, we had to act.”
