Season 1 of paper looks like the “worst” era of the office (but in the right direction)

The history of television is filled with truly formidable sitcoms, but even during these selected congles, there is often a point where jokes do not shine as well as before, or even at all. In the case of “The Office”, all reasonable fan will immediately admit that the series of nine seasons has undergone a significant drop in quality, and it started the day Michael Scott (Steve Carell) left a day earlier. If you were to classify the seasons of “The Office”, there is a notable part in the upper half of the list which succeeds thanks to the regional director Cingy de Carrell, who is desperate to be the friend of everyone.

Fortunately, with regard to the charming new spin-off of the series, “The Paper”, he clearly does not try to compete with Dunder Mifflin in his best, but rather than the second half of the chronology of “The Office” a race for his money. “The Paper” can already have characters (like Ken Davies of Tim Key) who echo the familiar comic atmosphere of some of your favorite support stars of the Scranton -based paper company, but there is no sign of a duplicate of Michael Scott, simply because there cannot be. Instead, if we will really put the show side by side, whatever the freshness “the paper”, it is clear that the new boss of The Truth Teller and a member of the staff who is about to take over has a chance to become a new version of the romance “will it not be”.

Ned and Mare are Jim and Pam of the newspaper

When Michael Scott separated from Dunder Mifflin, Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) and Pam Beasley (Jenna Fischer) had to take over and did a commendable job. The managerial tasks may have been transmitted among a handful of characters, but Jim and Pam have always remained the beating heart of the series, lifting other characters while working through different phases of the relationship that the public saw the second when they shared the screen together. We do not want to call it too early, but vibrations from Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mare Pritti (Chelsea Frei) are almost the same and precisely the right direction that this show must go.

Like the American version of “The Office” changed its game plan compared to that initially presented by the British program of Ricky Gervais (even if it took the first season to do so), “The Paper” changes things, first of all, not having their manager is a comic punching bag, but instead of him one of the rare characters with the best intentions. Ned arrives to make things happen and bring the story of truth back to his old glory, and already has an ally and a fan in the form of a mare. With this kind of dynamic, it is difficult to see something other than the same kind of chemistry and romantic path that we watched we have taken place between the creators of the Olympic office games. Let’s just hope that the story of Ned and Mare will sell as well as Pam and Jim – and is so likely to prosper.

The first season of “The Paper” is in trouble on Peacock now, and it has already been renewed for a second season.
