Thunder goalkeeper Nikola Topic, 20, undergoes treatment for testicular cancer | Oklahoma City Thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder said their 2024 first-round pick, Nikola Topic, is undergoing chemotherapy to treat testicular cancer.

Thunder general manager Sam Presti said Thursday that doctors were “extremely positive” about Topic’s prospects.

“Our only expectations of him are to focus on that,” Presti said. “That’s his biggest priority. He’ll come back and play basketball as soon as he’s able, but obviously we’re not putting any delays or expectations on that. He has all of our support, encouragement and love.”

Presti said the 20-year-old was diagnosed with cancer in early October, but asked the Thunder not to publicly discuss his treatment until he began chemotherapy.

The Serbian guard has yet to make his debut for the Thunder after sitting out last season due to a torn ACL. Presti said there is no specific timetable for Topic’s recovery and eventual return to the team.

Topic was a star for Red Star in Serbia before being drafted 12th overall by the Thunder last season, when they won the NBA title. His father, Milenko, won a silver medal as part of the Yugoslav basketball team at the 1996 Olympics.
