The best performance channels of the Ruth Langmore task of the Netflix Ozark

The writer and creator of “Mare of Easttown” Brad Inglesby stuck to our screens in 2021 and rightly. The drama led by Kate Winslet was not only a great mystery thriller, but a great family drama on a police detective trying to keep his post-divorce life together in a small town where everyone knows his business. Adding to the pressure, the different generations of women in the family tree of Sheehan: Mare (Winslet), his mother, Helen (Jean Smart), and his daughter, Siobhan (Angourie Rice), are both as frank as her. Their cleaning of cleaning was just as striking as the scenes where Mare was trying to find a missing person.
Fortunately, with the new series of Inglesby, “Task”, this balance of normality with the life and death scenarios has not changed, and its ability to create female characters who can hold the blows. In a program that spends a lot of time examining the lives of two single fathers on the opposite sides of the law, Inglesby also takes time for the niece and the blessing of Robbie (Tom Pelphrey) and injury in disguise, Maeve, played by Emilia Jones. His is undeniably the best performance of the show so far. When Jones strikes the notes of protective and just authority, she recalls a character from another criminal drama who involved a young girl beyond her years. Maeve channels “Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) of Ozark on her fiercest, and I have the impression that she warms up.
Maeve is the brilliant star in the dark world of the task
There were ruth scintillaries – a girl who (in her own words) did not already know the F ** K ” – in Maeve, but the opening scene of this week made it impossible to ignore. After having realized what kind of problem Robbie had brought home with him, Maeve posed his uncle with the same kind of frustration as we used to see the business partner “Ozark”.
Like Ruth, Maeve is not afraid to put elders who think they have understood it in their place. It allows Robbie to have it and his argument is completely justifiable. It comes from a cocktail of frustration, concern, hopes in dotted lines and outright anger on which the character of Julia Garner ran for four seasons. If Jones continues for the rest of the “task”, it could end up with the same type of reception when the reward season takes place.
During the “Ozark” race, Garner won six Emmy nominations, three of whom she won. We are not going to try to compare here (especially since this “task” is a limited series), but there are certainly enough of Jones, which previously attracted attention to its appearance in the “Coda”, winner of an Oscar, to obtain the same kind of praise. His co-star, Tom Pelphrey, is himself a former “Ozark”, and “Task” recalls how big he was in this show.
Tom Pelphrey returns to his Ozark level size in the task
While he only appeared in a season of the show, Tom Pelphrey stole “Ozark” by Byrdes as a younger brother in difficulty by Wendy Byde de Laura Linney in 2022 and obtained an appointment to the Emmy for his troubles. Like Emilia Jones evokes the major vibrations of Ruth Langmore, Pelphrey exploits the same inner rage and the agitation that his character, Ben Davis, had in the shovel. It is clear that Robbie de “Task” also has his right part, and for a good reason.
His explosion of rage and sorrow in front of Maeve in the episode of this week seems to have been lit by a similar short fuse that his character in “Ozark” had, and there is more of this incredible performance to wait in the coming weeks. When “Task” finally ends (just as we prefer not to do so), we only hope that these two stars are rewarded by the same level of recognition as the casting “Ozark”. And yes, it is also your recall that it is time that you give “Ozark” a return, after all.
New episodes of “Task” Air Sundays at 9 p.m. HE on HBO.
