Thomasin McKenzie (Jojo,, Joy) and Toby Wallace (Bikerideurs,, Euphoria) are ready to direct the second film by Frances O’Connor, Sister Maria goes to Rome.
Embankment has launched world presses on the next O’Connor project, whose criticism Emily Emma Mackey made her debut in glowing criticism when she was released in 2022.
When Sister Maria (McKenzie), a fiery young nun with unshakable faith, arrives in Rome in a quest to save her beloved village, she faces a blasé tourist guide (Wallace) who lost her way. “What starts as a delicious battle between idealism with wide -eyed eyes and tiring cynicism flourishes in an unexpected friendship that proves that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they believe in each other,” reads a synopsis of the plot. “Together, they discover that when the right people are fighting for what is good – Hope Triumphs, hearts change and miracles can occur.”
The shooting will start in the spring of 2026 in Lazio and Rome.
“Rome has always been a city of possibility for me from my very first visit for many years ago,” says O’Connor. “I wanted to create an edifying and fun story for all those who aimed to choose hope, focused on this young nun which was irrepressibly positive.”
