Thomas Doherty joins “ Little Shop of horrors ” as Seymour

The Scottish actor, who has become famous in Disney’s “descendants” franchise and the “Gossip Girl” restart, was thrown into the revolving Broadway of “Little Shop of Horrors” as Seymour. Doherty will join the company, marking her debut on stage in New York on September 5 at the WestSide Theater.

Doherty will play alongside Madeline Brewer (“The Handmaid’s Tale”, “You”) as Audrey in the musical on an unhappy florist who lifts a plant that feeds on human flesh. The show, featuring the music of Alan Menken and a book and words by Howard Ashman, has theatrical favorites such as “Skid Row (Downtown)”, “Somewhere that’s Green” and “Suddenly, Seymour”.

“I am so honored and excited to be presented as the new Seymour,” said Doherty in a statement. “` `Little Shop of Horrors ” was the very first show that I made as a child in Edinburgh, so doing it now in New York – alongside the incredibly talented Madeline Brewer – is a real dream.”

The other major cinema and television credits of Doherty include “Paradise” by Hulu, “Tell Me Lies”, “Girls5eva”, the mini-series led by Helen Mirren “Catherine The Great” and the Vampire thriller of Sony “The Invitation”. During all this time, however, he refined his musical theater chops in the hope of a day landing on the New York stage.

“I hope to build singing muscles and dancing muscles. There is nothing better than the scene,” said Doherty when it was presented in Variety Power of Hollywood from 2021. “It’s so open and it’s free – and energy.”
