This comic series generated 26 million views on Netflix in early 2025, proving it’s still the one to beat

Superheroes always top the charts on Netflix, but the most anti-heroic of them all has attracted viewers with exceptional numbers. According to FlixPatrol, the supernatural procedural, Luciferis the most watched superhero series on the Netflix charts. Satan may be the last thing viewers think of as a superhero, but this version of Lucifer will prove them wrong.
Tom Ellis stars like the devil, a character taken from Neil GaimanIt is The Sandman. The series was a far cry from the source material, taking the leader of the Lost Souls and putting him out of his element. After spending thousands of years dealing with evildoers, Lucifer decides it’s time to take a vacation and heads to the only place the devil can be found: Los Angeles, California. He calms down for a while at a club he owns before embarking on a vocation he had no intention of pursuing. Lucifer meets Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German) when an acquaintance of Lucifer ends up dying. Thanks to his ability to detect everyone’s secret desires, he becomes the only person who can help solve this crime. The series began as a crime procedural but naturally evolved into a heartfelt story about finding family.
‘Lucifer’ combines a structured crime story with eternal love
The devil has been a character in literature for centuries, but Lucifer give a different spin to the character. Instead of an evil entity tempting humans to give up their souls, this Lucifer was more of a jailer than anything else. The fallen angel was condemned to watch over imprisoned souls for eternity, but had no interest in condemning people to hell himself. After more than a millennium of torment, Lucifer decides it is time to take a vacation.
What he doesn’t intend to find is the love of his immortal life. Lucifer intervenes in solving a case, but is intrigued when he discovers that Chloe is immune to his abilities. His immunity convinces him to stay longer than expected, while his brother Amenadiel (DB Woodside) tries to convince him to return to hell. Lucifer is not just a monster-of-the-week series, but one that delves deep into the emotional struggles of these characters. Lucifer should be an all-powerful being, but like everyone else, he is shaped by the treatment of his family.
Lucifer has typical father issues present in other series, such as Supernaturalbut oddly enough, he is the only one in therapy. Lucifer’s Sessions with Dr. Linda (Rachel Harris), who ultimately discovers Lucifer’s true identity. She treats him like any patient and helps him unpack his abandonment issues and feelings of inferiority. All of these elements were presented in an acceptable crime procedural when it was on Fox.
The canceled network Luciferbut Netflix stepped in to allow the series to end on its own terms. On the streamer, Lucifer became less of a series of numbers and more concerned with character development. At the center of the show was a love story between Lucifer and Chloe, who began as a delightful bickering dynamic before becoming partners in the truest sense of the word. Lucifer is truly a series that has something for everyone, which is why it continues to do well on streaming. The six-season Netflix show explores the depths of God’s lost son and finally gives him an ending he deserved. Viewers can keep watching all six seasons of the flawless series over and over again on Netflix.
