“They know where they were before trade”

The president of the Colorado avalanche, Joe Sakic, spoke of events involving Mikko Rantanen’s trade earlier this season.
During the availability of the media after the elimination of the avalanche in the first round in the hands of Rantanen and the stars of Dallas, Sakic offered the following information on the trade of Mikko Rantanen at the Hurricanes of Carolina:
“I was one of everything that was going on. This is a difficult decision to exchange a guy like that. But you look at where we were in recent years – we were not good enough, we were not deep enough. We won in 22 because we had our stars, but we were so deep. You cannot win the Stanley Cup without that. The status quo was not good.”
Rantanen was a crucial member of the 2022 team who ousted the Lightning of Tampa Bay for the third Stanley Cup of the franchise. However, Rantanen, an imminent free agent at the time, did not seem to agree on a contract extension with Colorado.
This situation prompted the AVS to conclude an agreement. Sakic spread over the question:
“We wanted to have it signed. I will not go into details and talk about negotiations, but they know where they were before trade. ”
The reluctance of Mikko Rantanen to sign an extension before the deadline for trade forced the hand of the avalanche. Carolina’s return was substantial, in particular the talented winger Martin Necas.
Rantanen was then exchanged by the Hurricanes at the Dallas stars on the deadline, because he was not willing to sign an extension. The agreement in Dallas was subject to an extension, Rantanen finally signed an eight -year agreement with the stars.
The stars eliminated the avalanche in seven games in their first round series, Rantanen won a hat round in the series’s match.
Mikko Rantanen’s trade helped Colorado Avalanche to deepen

Sakic admitted to having used Mikko Rantanen’s profession as a means of improving the depth of the team for this season and beyond.
He said:
“After the deadline, we loved the team we had. If it was me, if we could do it, we would be delighted to bring this same unit and try to take another race. But we estimated that we had to deepen, not only for the team of this season, but to move forward.”
The avalanche has strengthened their depth by exchanging Brock Nelson from the New York Icelanders, Ryan Lindgren of the New York Rangers and Erik Johnson of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Acquisitions occurred in the heels of the team revising their goalkeeper situation, bringing Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood to separate offers.
Sakic concluded his thoughts by declaring:
“The simple fact of paying three high -end guys and not having a surrounding casting was not going to do it.”
These “three high -end” guys were reduced to two while Nathan Mackinnon and the alleged winner of the Norris Cale Makar trophy stay in the club.
Mackinnon recorded seven goals and 11 points in the series of seven games against Dallas. Meanwhile, Cale Makar had a relatively silent series, scoring a goal and four assists.
As for Mikko Rantanen, he had a whale in a series after a slow start. He burned the avalanche for five goals and 12 points during their opening series. He will seek to continue his success while the stars will face the Winnipeg jets on the turn 2 of the STANLEY Cup qualifiers.
