These Netflix Characters Are Definitely In The Viral Group 7 TikTok Trend

Calling all Group 7 villains. Viral TikTok trend divides internet. But what does it mean to be part of Group 7? Musician Sophia James tested TikTok’s algorithm with a series of videos to promote her song “So Unfair” to see which was more successful (each labeled Group 1, Group 2, etc.). Due to algorithmic hijacking, the Group 7 video took off. And because the Internet loves an inside joke, everyone has decided to be part of this exclusive club of extremely cool people.
But who is considered the right kind of cool for Group 7? Is this ordained by the TikTok gods, or is there open registration? While being a part of Group 7 can kind of mean…whatever you want, here are the characters from the Netflix shows who are definitely ready to join the party.
Nobody wants that
Morgan (Justine Lupe) and Sasha (Timothy Simons) may be the “loser siblings” in their family, but name two people with more Group 7 energy — we dare you. As Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) become a “we” in Nobody wants that In Season 2, their siblings navigate their unexpected friendship and discover what they want for themselves. They may not all be together in real life, but Morgan and Sasha are part of the “in” crowd online, right? RIGHT. (Sasha did staged a fake date via Snapchat in Season 1, so we’re confident in his abilities to maneuver this trend.)

Outer Banks

Is Group 7 just another name for the Pogues? Outer Banks Star Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron, went viral for greeting her fellow “Group 7 villains” on TikTok, so you know the Pogues are in the know. When Sarah, John B. (Chase Stokes), Kie (Madison Bailey), JJ (Rudy Pankow), and Pope (Jonathan Daviss) aren’t searching for lost treasure or attending a bonfire on the beach, you just know they’re leading Group 7. P4L.

I never did it

Our girl Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) isn’t necessarily part of the cool crowd at Sherman Oaks High, but she would definitely be a part of Group 7. Looks like she’d be one of the first on TikTok to post an aesthetic “Group 7 vibe” post about her and her friends Eleanor (Ramona Young) and Fabiola (Lee Rodriguez) while claiming his academic rival, Ben Gross (Jaren Lewison) could never match their energy. Now all he has to do is translate that Group 7 attitude into graduating high school and maybe impressing his crush, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet).

Department Q

Sure, he has a mysterious past, but Akram Salim (Alexej Manvelov) has a Group 7 mindset: effortlessly cool because he’s not while trying to be cool, you know? Akram is a former Syrian police officer forced to flee to Europe who now works for Department Q, the cold case unit in Edinburgh, Scotland, led by DCI Carl Morck (Matthew Goode). We can’t say for sure that Akram has a TikTok – and it seems Morck would have a few choice words for any viral internet trend – but every crime series needs a bright spot, and Akram is (one of) Department Q‘s.

Girls of Derry

Clare Devlin (Nicola Coughlan) is proof that being in Group 7 doesn’t necessarily mean you’re classically “cool.” This is certainly the case for Clare and her comrades Girls of Derry Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Harland) and Michelle Mallon (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), as well as Michelle’s cousin James Maguire (Dylan Llewellyn), all navigate the end of the Irish Troubles while attending a strict Catholic high school with hilarious results. (OK, maybe James isn’t in Group 7. But where are we with honorary members?)
